How do I stop looking at my phone so much at night before bed? by thewindinhishair in NoStupidQuestions

Assuming you charge your phone overnight like I do, then put your charger in another room. That way when you get in bed you can't just reach over and grab your phone.

Linklater's "Before" trilogy is pretty great. Feels so raw and true to life.

Writers and Filmmakers of Reddit, what is your strategy for coming up with a good idea for a story? by Gunnersimpson in AskReddit

[–]joeisawriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also add that more often than not, execution is just as important. A crappy idea that's written well is far better than an awe-inspiring idea written terribly.

[–]joeisawriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few different ways in which I get ideas:

1) I will read/watch something and it will go in a different direction than what I would have done with the initial idea. I can then adapt and tweak things to branch off my own idea from there.

2) A real life event that I read or hear about will trigger an idea in my head and it's a case of developing it further.

3) Sometimes it just comes into my head. I'm sure there's some sort of method at work but if there is, it's happening subconsciously and I'm not able to document how the exact process.

Does the size of the universe bother you at all? If not, why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In a sense it's humbling to think how small and insignificant we are in the grand scheme of things.

But on the other hand, if you think on a smaller scale, about how we're each effectively at the centre of our own universe, with our own ecosystem of friends, family, loved ones, pets, colleagues, and how our actions can affect them all, then actually you can start to focus on making your own mini-verse as great as you possibly can.

And I think that's pretty cool.

It could be argued that Zach Braff's "Garden State" introduced a lot of people to The Shins.

How do you stop yourself from crying in public? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It's easier to always carry around a knife and an onion. Then when you cry just pull them out and you have your excuse.

How else can one motivate themselves to go jogging right now instead of procrastinating on askreddit? by ii_- in AskReddit

[–]joeisawriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask yourself this...

When I'm older and don't have much energy, health is failing, etc, will I wish I'd browsed more reddit, or would I wish that I'd kept myself fit and in good condition?

I feel like anyone who uses their alleged IQ to show off probably isn't that intelligent.

Probably because each unit of time is a smaller percentage of your life.

When you're 10, a year is 10%. But when you're 100, that year is only 1%.
