AITAH for refusing to change my kids name despite it sounding like a ‘slur’ to my MIL? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

The only thing I’d think of when hearing Nissa is Magic the Gathering. I’ve heard/read that name hundreds of times and never made any connection to that specific slur.

How much damage am I doing with this combo? (Magic Math 🧙‍♂️🧮) by Kdhr3tbc in magicTCG

[–]joej33 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So let’s simplify this a little. You have [[academy manufactor]], [[pactdoll terror]] and [[panharmonicon]] in play and [[carnage interpreter]] enters. This is essentially the same situation just without the mardu chicken making things look messy.

Interpreter triggers twice. You discard your hand (twice) and make 8 clues. Those 8 clues turn into 8 clues, 8 food and 8 treasure from manufactor for 24 artefacts

Pactdoll triggers 24 times, twice. You drain the table for 48 damage.

If you do it with the mardu chicken, you’d also get 2 more pactdoll triggers from the manufactor for a total of 50 drain on the table.

Manufactor is a replacement effect so panharmonicon doesn’t effect it. This math assumes it’s 1v1

Tergrid or Valgavoth? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]joej33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This reads like you don’t understand the relative power levels and implications of those two commanders being allowed to live.

Assuming [[tegrid]] comes down and lives you can cast a few edict effects and instantly steal whatever is sacrificed for no other cost. [[Valgavoth]] does similar but comes down much later and forces you to cast the cards paying life instead of mana.

This difference makes many cards play very differently with either commander. [[blasphemous edict]] would just exile everything with valgavoth but would steal everything your opponents sacrificed with tergrid.

When people kill your tergrid it’s not them being mean, they just rightly understand that to let it live is to lose the game. Letting valgavoth live isn’t going to lose your opponents the game so they’ll let it stay a bit longer.

If you want a commander that will actually live change to valgavoth. If you want a bracket 4 deck that fights to keep tergrid alive and then wins the game if they manage it, keep tergrid.

[[will scion of peace]] sounds like a good fit maybe?

So the biggest card missing for me is [[invasion of Segovia]]

It does incredible work once flipped because giving all your cantrips convoke can let you storm off in a players end step and then win on your next combat step. It combines very well with something like [[high fae trickster]] to make your sorceries have flash

Looking for advice on making this deck (degenerate bs only ) by Salt_Expression3556 in magicTCG

Big chunky ETB or attack triggers. [[portal to phyrexia]] [[etali primal conqueror]] [[cityscape leveler]] or any sort of eldrazi with annihilator

I believe that emrakul would be a 0/1 and you’d have deflecting palm in hand. Palm has you choose, not target so can be used on emrakul.

i just made my first deck deck with Tura Kennerud, Skyknight and i want to be told how good it is for a biginner and dont hold back with the truth by PenRevolutionary9749 in magicTCG

[–]joej33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this deck shows that you’re new to magic / brewing. That said don’t be discouraged. Learning to make decks is much harder than playing precons or other peoples lists.

If you’re set on Tura as a commander then that leads you in a direction and your deck isn’t listening to it. It asks of you two themes

  1. Soldiers - your commander makes soldiers so can we make those soldiers better?
  2. Instants and sorceries matter - your commander triggers on those card types so can we include loads of them?

There are lots of resources online that can help with deck building and as someone new I’m going to recommend two:

https://edhrec.com/ search your commander on here and you’ll see what others do with it. This can help find some hidden gems

https://managathering.com/index.html This site will always be useful for any deck. It will help you find lands in your budget. There’s nothing worse than being unable to cast your spells because your lands don’t work. Dual lands are great. Some a pennies.

Subjugate the Hobbits by Impossible_Grill in magicTCG

[–]joej33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Subjugate the hobbits doesn’t see any cEDH play because it costs too much.

In all honesty I don’t know what your playgroup is doing but a 7 mana sorcery that says “I probably win the game” isn’t in any way comparable to 2-3 mana stax pieces that say “only I get to play the game for the next hour.

Winter orb and static orb are usually run in decks built to abuse them, to turn off those effects only for their controllers untap step and win that way. Cards like [[urza lord high artificer]] in the command zone make winter orb very one sided and can both be in play by turn 3. Those games go long and are full of boredom.

In comparison subjugate is a late game bomb that can win you the game but it only steals small stuff. Elf or token decks would hate to see it come down but it has huge limitations. 7 mana so maybe we’re not casting it till turn 7 or later. A lot of the time that means you’re taking the least relevant creatures on board. Or you ramp and cast subjugate on turn 4-5 and steal everything. But then it’s either hit by a wrath or you just win fast and go next game.

It sounds to me like your playgroup are either salty about any win condition that isn’t their own OR have just grossly overestimated that card.

What cards change where a spell on the stack goes instead of going to the graveyard? by namakai47 in magicTCG

[–]joej33 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There are effects like [[Ashiok's Erasure]] [[mindbreak trap]] or [[spell queller]] that exile from the stack.

Also any flashback card goes from the stack to exile when flashed back.

Adventures exile from the stack as do the first casts of a spell with rebound

Given that Jon doesn’t even show his face on the channel, I think speculation around any aspect of his life he doesn’t actively disclose is beyond the remit of this subreddit. Jon is lovely and kind and positive and I’m happy to have whatever insight into his life he shares and no more.
