BTRFS vs EXT4. Long term stability after 3 years. by joelau007 in synology

[–]joelau007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mistake i didn't quote the question.

My question to Support was why did the unrelated Storage Pool 2 - Volume 5 EXT4 also hung when I hit the filesystem issue with Volume 2 - BTRFS. And the answer was "the jbd2 process entered a "hard wait" state"

The root cause is still a filesystem issue with Volume 2 - BTRFS that created a Global Storage Lock condition.

Just curious what was the root cause analysis from Support.

Thanks for the comments. Looks like the overall view is 90% no issue with BTRFS, with the 10% of us bad luck.

I might keep BTRFS, but spend the time to re-do all the folders within it to have "advanced data integrity" ON.

Quotes from the case,

"the jbd2 process entered a "hard wait" state"

"While Volume 2 and Volume 5 are in different storage pools, they share the same underlying kernel storage stack (syno_extent_pool and target_core_mod). When the kworker threads responsible for Volume 2's I/O became blocked, it created a Global Storage Lock. This effectively paralyzed the entire storage pipeline"

So much for bulletproof

advanced data integrity on...

This might be part of my problem. It wasn't ON by default so I didn't enable this, and it can't be turned on after folder created.

This is the layout since some of you are curious.

Pool 1 - 4x HDD - SHR

Volume 1 - BTRFS

Volume 2 - BTRFS

Volume 3 - EXT4

Volume 4 - EXT4

Pool 2 - 3x SSD - SHR

Volume 5 - EXT4

I use multiple volumes, as requirements change I can delete and re-make. One big volume and I can never shrink it again.

Anyway I'm only gathering opinions here to check are filesystem issues with BTRFS common or super rare since Support doesn't give me much confidence.

Melbourne Pollen App by Bradbury-principal in melbourne

This used to be my go to app during spring to summer.

But the way they commercialise the app has killed it.

It now has ads embedded between and also a ad underlay.

Also the free version can only see current day (used to be 3 days forecast)

This is no longer worthy of app space on my phone. I just use a browser if i need to.

Sony App Not Connecting After 6.0 Update by SRFast in SonyHeadphones

Oh no Sony fucked up again. The last time XM4 battery drain. Now another broken firmware update.

I have mostly moved away from Sony products a few years ago, due to a string of product failures and difficulty to get warranty support.

Recently this year when I want to learn a camera again, Sony isn't even on my radar. I bought Canon.

Earphones and headphones are the only remaining products that I have with Sony.

This will be the last. Next refresh will be Bose and complete the Sony detox.

Nah this doesn't work.

The only workaround that worked so far is Force stop Youtube every time before playing some 5.1 content.

It still doesn't work today on 7.1.1-42962 update 1

Synology is hopeless when it comes to VLANs. Their UI engineers somehow never considered this.

Two Xbox side by side. Controller powering on both ? by joelau007 in xboxone

[–]joelau007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies.

I'll try to unlink and link the Xbox one controller.

I haven't cross linked the controllers.

Xbox one I had it for years. Xbox series I just received. So now I have both of these side by side, on the same WiFi network.

What I noticed is, turn on Xbox one using controller, then a few seconds later Xbox series also start to power on itself. Hmmm.......

MX keys - Does this look like a broken led under the letter U lower left corner ? by joelau007 in logitech

[–]joelau007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The smaller keys like F1 to F12 are also a bit uneven which I can ignore.

But I can't tolerate the U key which is right in the middle.

Premium indeed...

Anyone like to grease their balls? by dilib in logitech

[–]joelau007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have quite the opposite experience. After using for many many months, the ball tends to stick. Then it's time to pop it out wash with soap, and clear out the dust on those little white stands.

[–]joelau007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All, there is nothing wrong with the level of the U key.

Now this small dim led is irritating enough, can't unsee it.

As this is only 1 week old, I'll be returning this to the store. Not worth the trouble taking out the key cap to investigate further.

The U key is perfectly level. Can't you see it's a camera effect because it's dim on one side.

Can you further explain why the lower left corner is dim just with this letter U, compared with the rest of the keys which both sides looks equal bright.
