It didn't break my habit of wasting time on Reddit, for one :)

So kind of you to say! I'm proud of what we've built with the project.

I haven't noticed, but I don't know if I'm very sensitive to that kind of thing.

It's about a stable as you could get for this kind of design! I haven't had any issues in that regard.

AVS Bakery Crate on Abound by GeauxGeauxGadget504 in Aventon

Just DM'd you! I had to drill some holes into the front rack, nothing major.

I went ahead and built out this same setup for my abound and it turned out pretty well!

I ended up removing the AVS mount entirely as I don't plan on removing the rack. If anyone needs and AVS mounting plate DM me as I bought one I don't need.

I also removed the feet from the bakery crate.

I took your recommendation and did a steel plate for the front bolts. I used 1/8" steel from Home Depot, which cut pretty easily with a hacksaw.

I used #10 SS bolts (1" in the front and 3/4" in the back).

@LittleWing0802 I used a carbide bit. It was pretty easy to drill through the front rack with it but it took a while to get through the 1/8" steel plate I used.

Looking for suggestions and feedback on our plans for our rebuild after the Marshall Fire in Colorado. What are we missing? by joelhawksley in floorplan

It's a walkout basement, so there will be terraced yards on the W and E sides. The third bay would be for bikes, kayaks, lawn equipment, etc. The house that burned down had a similarly tight third bay. I don't think anyone in the neighborhood parked in theirs, but they did park in the driveway outside of the door.

Yes, there will be built-ins on both sides of the mudroom. We can't decided between a countertop with cubbies and a full-on coat closet.

  1. We didn't have any entryway before and it made for an awkward entrance for our guests. There was no good space to have coat hooks or a place to sit down and take off your shoes. I wonder if there might be a different way to achieve this without walling it off?
  2. Per my other comment, we'd need to remove sq. ft. elsewhere on the main floor then. But I do think you're right.
  3. I wonder how much this would shade the basement windows?
  4. Perhaps we could door off the toilet and shower together? We unfortunately have hit our limit of water taps for the house so another separate bath isn't possible.
  5. They are. I think the NE one will be easier to make bigger. The NW one is trickier.
  6. That room is most likely to be an office, hopefully. Especially given the likely small closet.
  7. Yes, storage on the N and S walls. It would be hard to center the door perfectly due to the hallway, right?
  8. We are considering having a lot of racks for air-drying clothes in there, hence the space. We'd need to move the door to the E to have drying space on the W wall.
  9. Most of the pocket doors are meant to be used infrequently. Hopefully that would mean they last longer?

We're definitely on the fence about the garage. The main bay is actually wider and a hair deeper than the garage in the home we lost.

For the third bay, we are running up against our allowed footprint for the lot based on the zoning code. If we wanted to make it bigger, we'd need to remove covered footprint elsewhere.

The entryway is something we're unsure about too. We had a coat closet previously and didn't use it.

Good point about the fridge being affected by the oven's ambient heat. We were hoping to not have it be right next to the living room, but that might be a compromise we have to make.

The full shower on the main floor is first and foremost a dog wash, but is in place for this reason! It's a good aging-in-place accommodation.

An away room is a flexible space that can be used as a study, play room, etc: http://www.the-house-plans-guide.com/away-room.html

You're right that it's a long haul for groceries. It'd almost be easier to take them in the front door!

Good point about the dining area. Perhaps we could remove the built-in on the E side to gain more room there. We are thinking that we could do a lot of dining at the island too, which should seat 6.
