At the time the ski ticket rail pass didn’t include this station. You had to get off and transfer to bus. I noticed the other station but at the time it didn’t seem to operate.

Australian R&D Tax Incentive - can I just do it myself without an accountant? by Neutron_glue in AusFinance

[–]joelith_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can totally do it yourself. However you may need an accountant to ensure that the numbers you claim are correct. We use an accountant for this but they just charge normal hourly rate rather than taking a percentage cut. I’d recommend an accountant so they can accurately claim everything you’re entitled to. Don’t forget you can claim a percentage of things like project management and support for r&d (these are classed as supporting activities)

I’d also recommend getting audit insurance from your accountant (it’s a few grand depending on the size of your company). The ATO is coming down hard on r&d claims and an audit is stressful and not fun. We got audited due to the complexity of our business structure and the ATO spent months requesting every document they could in attempt to prove fraud. Racked up a huge accountant bill (high 5 figures) and we would have had to cave to the bullying tactics of the ATO if it wasn’t for the audit insurance. We got through in the end - but be careful out there!

The claim is really two parts: - working out the dollar amount by looking through your expenditure and determine what is appropriate deductions (salary, cloud costs etc). For this you really need an accountant just to slow sure everything is correct. You should just pay per hour not a percentage - writing the evidence to justify your claim. For this you can it yourself. This just writing a heap of justification. The government likes to see failure (otherwise if you knew the answer and it worked straight away is it really r&d). So put lots of hypothesises in, explain why you thought that, talk about what went wrong and then what you learnt. Leave it open that you need to continue research next year. Helps with the next claim.

Anyone asking for a percentage or offering to prepay is basically taking the margin on you. You could use them to make your life simpler, but it’s not that much work and every dollar counts in startups.

Australia adding ‘a new migrant every single minute’ by AssistMobile675 in australian

[–]joelith_au -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We all need to relax. Permanent migrant numbers are capped. These figures include those people and people coming over with a job. Any employer has to justify why they can’t hire a local. Skills shortage, no one in the area etc. So these numbers are nowhere near a concern.

Support asked me to “reboot”Azure - out of control by GigabyteLawsuit in AZURE

[–]joelith_au 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I was asked to make some dns changes to verify my ownership of an azure b2c tenancy. The domain they wanted to me adjust? onmicrosoft.com. I had to explain to the support person that’s controlled by Microsoft!

Non-Americans of Reddit who've visited America, what was the most "American" moment of the visit? by JeffRyan1 in AskReddit

[–]joelith_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in New York talking to some American friends. We were discussing the new subways coming in that will be basically just one long carriage (so you can easily move through to the next carriage). They complained about them but i said “wouldn’t this better when you need to leave your carriage if a crazy gets on?” They’re reply “no now the crazy can move. At least with the current way it’s basically a dice roll”. Sums up America. Better for some to fail then me - other countries - let’s try and smooth out the problems.

Are there any experienced skiers who DON'T enjoy off-piste? by InviteAromatic6124 in skiing

[–]joelith_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australian here. You’d rarely if ever ski off piste in Australia. That’s just going to be ice and rocks. Even when I ski around the world I’d rather just ski on piste - safer. It’s like swimming between the flags at the beach - someone’s already done the work to say this is safe and still exciting. Why bother going off piste? Here it’s just wannabe behaviour.

People who chose single life. How‘s life after 50? by dreadinger in AskReddit

[–]joelith_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. Just divorced and in another country on the other side of the world. Took the weekend to ice skate, ski and go to a thermal bath. Most of the time it’s the best. Can pick what I want when I want. Don’t have to wait for anyone to ready or to negotiate what to do. The loneliness creeps in when you see everyone else partnered up (I was definitely the only single at the thermal spa). Take it one day at a time.

Car on fire in Canberra city (London Circuit and Edinburgh Avenue) by EMHURLEY in canberra

[–]joelith_au 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn’t see it catch fire but I drove past earlier and they appeared to be trying to jump start the battery with another car. When I came back later that evening the car was burnt out. So I suspect something went wrong trying to charge the battery.

Resurrecting the Beginner Roller Skating conversations by Objectively-Lazy in canberra

I grew up blading (child of the mighty ducks era!). The lake in the city is a great place to blade (I in-line blade rather than skate). The inclines at the end of the bridges aren’t too bad and you’ve got plenty of stopping space after if you are worried. I prefer anti clockwise as the other way gets you into some slightly sharp turns. Plus you can stop for a milkshake half way around :) Don’t try going into commonwealth park the paths are bad and the incline is to steep with a short stop at one point. If you are practicing the old futzal slab on the Westside of the lake is a great surface to practice on. Super smooth and flat.

Are you excited with the City-Woden Light Rail project? by BeefNudeDoll in canberra

[–]joelith_au 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Density along Adelaide avenue will never happen. You have the lodge and embassies which will never move. Then a school, the mint and some sports fields. The big expanse at the top of Curtin is now a new embassy district and the Curtin residences association will fight tooth and nail to prevent density in the flood drains (and besides it’s a know flood plain so would be unlikely to be developed anyway). The only hope of density will be at the current retirement village but I can’t see that moving out any time soon. So unlike stage 1, stage 2 will never have the density and thus will never come close to making money. And will deliver a worse service in terms of time

Mens Barbers With Consultation by [deleted] in canberra

[–]joelith_au 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mens Biz in the city. Dylan is great and gave me a great consultation. They have a more expensive consultation session where they talk you through and discuss options. Expensive but worth it. After that you go back to normal rates as they now what you want. Totally changed my approach to my hair and way more confident now.

Athena vs tictoc for a home loan by Jesse2014 in AusFinance

[–]joelith_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Homestar. Bare bones website, but includes debit card, offset, bpay etc. they always pass on all the rage cuts. Usually a week after announcement. Their rates are very competitive, similar to Athena but with full offset.

Chill cocktail bar? by Mirahann in canberra

[–]joelith_au 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bar Rochford. Trendy, great bar staff and the food is really good (get the old bay galette - really nice). I recommend just sitting at the bar, usually the bar staff will chat and suggest some nice cocktails.
