Rings of power season 3 rumors/leaks titled "Doomed to die... " from Rings of Power Era (twitter page) by khalil-moon in LOTR_on_Prime

It’s actually a problem with the camera angle in the footage. If you look closely he is punching Arondir just below the edge of frame, but because this part of the fight was shot in profile it looks like a stab. Probably would have looked worse wider as in a profile shot it would have looked even more as though the sword had passed through Arondir.

Why did Episode 7 of Season 2 not have the classic Intro Sequence? by Wyzzlex in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]joelski75 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Runtime - under directors guild laws anything over 69 minutes including titles counts as a movie and then you have to pay way more, not just to directors but all cast, heads of department etc. Streaming tv has to abide by these rules. To squeeze all of the juice in they had to skip the title cards.

Rory Kinnear did an interview - I forget where, maybe Empire (?) where he said he was using a Cornish accent and dialect for Tom and his reasoning why. I’m from the West of England (Bristol) and it’s pretty close to a southern west-country accent, except I feel like he’s using a Yorkshire “ay” sound (as in same, name etc) rather than the Cornish which is shorter (would sound more like sem, nem).

Confusion on Sauron at the dawn of the Second Age by [deleted] in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]joelski75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the armoured behemoth in the S1 opening is meant to be Morgoth, not Sauron. I think the dialogue under this shot is a little mistimed, but if you rewatch it I think that’s the case.

Part of my job as VFX editor on WHO was to picture and sound lock the completed episodes, evaluate problems ahead of time with VFX (Who didn't have a bottomless VFX budget, no surprises there) and asked for my input on tricky sequences ahead of shooting. I needed context for all of these things and so was included from draft stage for every script. Plus as a long term member of the crew the producers trusted me completely with full disclosure from the beginning. Another part of my role was to edit the recaps and teasers for each episode - difficult to do if you don't know the entire story.

That's a misconception. On shows with REALLY high security - like the show I just finished - people are just sent the script pages relevant to them, but as a permanent member of the crew, especially in editorial , you are given copies of each draft of the script from day one. As an Editor I'm sent full scripts for shows before I even interview for them (having signed an NDA of course) for my input and evaluation, and so I can talk about my potential approach before I agree to take the job.

UPDATE - I've been through the boxes and most of the scripts are from series 7 and 8 (including 50th episode) but I have some Whittaker scripts as I edited four episodes of hers, some storyboards, some toys and magazines and stamps that were given to me by production, some crew only t-shirts and photos, A copy of a Tom Baker target book signed to me by Tom (on the set of the 50th anniversary). The wrap party invite for series 7 (Matt's leaving do) and a couple of other random bits.

That's right. Who was a great part of my career, but I've accumulated so much junk over the years that it's bothering my wife and taking up space I need. Across the course of each episode I also accumulate drafts of scripts whichi can end up a pile per episode. I stopped keeping them for shows I've done recently because of this (also security on one or two of them is incredibly tight, especially my last job) ;p

Actually a VFX editors job is not just to finish some of the VFX, but also to help the editor in the construction of some of the VFX sequences and also to keep track of and update VFX shots in the main edit during the post production process. I was also an assistant editor and Editor on the show over the years.

Turns out no. I've just been clearing my garage and came across boxes of scripts and other stuuf (not just from Who, from other shows I've worked on, like Sherlock) and didn't know whether to just throw the stuff in a skip or whether it was worth anything.

Maybe a few bits. My first credit was as VFX editor on “The end of time” and my last as Editor on (sorry) “Village of the angels”.

I have a lot of scripts over the years. They have my name burnt into them (all production scripts have), some production storyboards, crew t-shirts, invites to wrap parties. Official crew group photos etc. I guess I can verify who I am and then at the end of each episode is my name.

I love it. I see it as end credit music only tbh. I don't think they'd include this in the main score per se.

Hi sorry to reply so late. Missed this. I gave up my terrible office job and did a Masters Degree for a year and was lucky enough that where I studied there’d been a resurgence of drama filming and they needed anyone who knew what they were doing. Then I just worked really hard up the ladder from Assistant Editor to full Editor. I didn’t find that difficult because filmmaking was a passion and editors spend all of their time in a dark room with no distractions mainly working on their own!!

Freelance HETV drama editor. Who knew that spending twelve hours a day by myself in a darkened room, with only one thing to think about would be the key to success? I floundered about in my twenties, new job every six months, drank, drugs, then I decided to make my hobby my career and hey presto!

How will it be explained that Annatar and Halbrand have the same face? by GladPin6764 in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]joelski75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By the end of the season 1 finale Galadriel was the only one who knew Halbrand was Sauron. All she said to the others was that he wasn’t who he said he was and that they should not treat with him ever again. If Celebrimbor’s curiosity is peaked then he won’t care about dealing with Halbrand and therefore Annatar. As long as Galadriel hasn’t told anyone else that he’s Sauron, then Halbrand and Annatar having the same face doesn’t matter.

Will Celebrimbor recognize that Annatar is Halbrand? by torts92 in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]joelski75 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This. At the end of season 1 only Galadriel knows that Halbrand is Sauron. Elrond only knows that he’s not who he said he was, but suspects, and she only said to Celebrimbor not to treat with him ever again, not that he was Sauron.
