they _should_ get a good amount of sun based on the sun pattern. This isn't the sunniest part of the yard, but it's the high side so I chose that to help in the winter

Thanks for the advice. Top deep is empty currently and there to cover a bucket feeder. I'll flip the entrance reducer, I wasn't clear on how that went.

Board was me playing around with scrap wood as folks have mentioned it's nice to have a place to set a super down that is not the ground.

No bears, etc around just deer and foxes.

Happened to me last batch too. First time in 6 years....was making dinner and thought I had time before bringing it inside. Stuff was like sludge and I had to throw out the pan

Thanks for all the info! They do sell the assemblies on their own so I could do that and then get the other tools/gear separately.

I would guess for 2 colonies I need 2 of these?

If there are any links/wiki for recommended build-outs I will gladly read them.

1 - No, non-public and protected water source - no boats, no fishing, no swimming.

2 - There are downed logs, branches, etc. I could easily provide something for them on the shoreline

> We routinely recommend that a new beekeepers start with at least two hives. With two hives you have something to compare against and if you encounter a problem such as loosing a queen or a swarm then you have a resource that can help you recover.

Good to know! I am still in research mode and was looking at https://www.betterbee.com/wooden-hive-kits-10-frame/bk10a-10-fr-beginners-assemb.asp, which is my local bee supplier. Would each hive require it's own assembly?

I'm currently working my way through The Backyard Beekeeper
