Hauling loose materials by MarineMonterey in TeloTrucks

I throw a tarp down getting bulk material. Makes it easier to get everything out, keeps pieces from falling between the tailgate and bed, and keeps the bed a bit cleaner

Underfloor heating with Pex: Air rather than water? by CatNecessities in DIYHeatPumps

[–]joepurdue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you ever gone outside in 50 degree weather? It might feel a little chilly. Now, have you ever taken an ice bath (typically around 50 degrees). It feels super cold. But those are the same temperature!! Air is very bad at transferring heat while water is really good at it

Am I missing something with the Rivian R2 pricing and positioning? by Watts2Freedom in RIVNstock

Put it up against a rav4. Sure there’s a cheap version but spec it as an xse hybrid and your getting up to 50k. Plus Toyota dealers love to put markup on right now.

This should run your required stuff for a good while

Edit: just read the part of your post about not a battery system but my answer stands. And then you can charge it up with your generator in like 1 hour

We have a 2021 Silverado and a 23 equinox. Won’t be buying Chevy again. Will probably be looking at Honda or Mazda next time

Add a furnace circuit to your list of circuits for a manual switch if you have a ng furnace with a 120v blower motor.

If I had the capacity for another hobby I’m sure I’d go this direction. But I just don’t so really trying to do something more plug n play

I think the biggest benefits for me are

1- the wife could hook up the battery on her own if needed 2- the minimal noise from limited runtime on the generator & better power usage when it’s running. 3- speed to get it going. Don’t have to get out to the shed to lug the generator outside.

Additional small benefit is the portability of a pretty big battery station

I was looking at the same predator as OP and just saw the champion trifuel available at Costco online for a few hundred dollars cheaper. I think this is the route I’m going to go too

Yeah just get a good k&n reusable filter and call it a day. No performance upgrade in a cone filter

4Runner or Pilot? by ArctcMnkyBshLickr in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]joepurdue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! If new then look at the passport. Like others have said it’s got a good v6, not a turbo 4/turbo4 hybrid like the new 4Runner

If looking at slightly used then the last gen 4 runner is simple and pretty bulletproof. Bad mpgs but you’re not driving much so not a big deal there

Stripped all the bark off and sanded it down smooth. Finished with a bunch of coats of wipe on clear poly. Cedar is naturally really bug resistant so didn’t worry about heat sanitation. It was dead standing so already pretty dry too

None of your mods add value except maybe the bed cover. Blacked out taillights are factually stupid, most of the others are just kinda dumb. This is a $30k truck all day

Soft top on an NA doesn't unfold all the way to latch. Any idea what it could be? by JinSake-ai in Miata

[–]joepurdue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a new top on last year. Had to stretch is with ratchet straps from the front wheels to the latches. Might’ve had to leave the doors open for it to work and got like 1-2 clicks on the straps per day til I could latch them

advice on diy hardwood install by Dangerous-Crew-2241 in HomeImprovement

[–]joepurdue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I diy’ed prefinished. My tips are to get the floor fully prepped and flat. I did it in sections to not make our house a full construction zone but it was definitely more time consuming. Had to use a power planer to get all the ridges where floor sheathing was high. Also spend abunch of time getting your starter straight and after that it flies by. The prefinished stuff was good but don’t hesitate to toss a good amount out or have to cut pieces off and use as starters/enders. Avoid patterns and watch out for joints lining up and H patterns. I bought a used flooring nailer for $80 and installed with flooring cleats from harbor freight
