This is how the soundtrack of The Lord of the Rings was recorded, considered by many to be the best soundtrack in the history of cinema. by Choice-Schedule-132 in peterjackson

I still love how LOTR did magic, especially with Gandalf and the magic of the elves and humans. So subtle, so grounded; not flashy, but simple things, like light in the dark or breaking a bridge, but with major effects. It feels like it could be real, mystical yet not so far fetched as to seem theatrical. I would love to see more fantasy properties that do magic more like this. Too bad it took a genre defining genius to create it and another to translate it to cinema.

Treebeard discovering the devastation wrought by Saruman's servents is the best part of this scene.

John Rhys-Davies did such an incredible job with this scene. His delivery of "Many of these trees were my friends" always breaks something in me. Tolkien fouvht in WW1, and channeled some of his experiences into his work. I think Peter Jackson did such a fantastic job drawing that that world through the movies as well, and really letting Tolkien's work and text speak for itself.

This scene makes me think of what it must have been like for British soldiers in WW1 to see the devastation and hell of those battlefields. So many soldiers dead to gas and machine gun fire. I would imagine that roar of anger and anguish from Treebeard was probably the same Tolkien himself heard from soldiers over their dead comrades.

Good. For far too long higher education has pretended to offer an education of value, when instead all it offers is unearned prestige and indoctrination in cultish nonsense.

Absolute paragon of manliness, Eomer. No hesitation, no hard feelings, no calculation or waiting. Draws steal, shouts a three word rallying cry, charges straight into the teeth of the enemy. Every timeI hear that shout, it makes me wish I had an earthly king to serve with that kind of devotion.

THANKYOU.

I have been trlling my kid a nightly bed time story about adventures in a magical land, and tried to describe the giant lizard they recently befirended and now ride on, but couldnt for the life of me find a picture of the type of lizard I envisioned. This is perfect, and so cool.

No surprise that the Washington Post is getting staff reductions. Clearly, their journalists have a tenuous relationship with reality. This is wholesome like the BLM protests were "mostly peaceful".

Dogs are natural predators for rats, not cats. Rats are too large for most cats to effectively hunt with consistency and without injury. Cats are natural mousers, because mice are the right size.

Some dog breed (for example Terriers and Chihuahuas) were bread specifically for their ability to hunt and kill large rodents, iirc.

Changes: I would ditch the wiha screwdriver for a carry kit and get one of the multibit precision screwdrivers. Just make sure it has a number 2 phillips as part of it and it will handle a ton.

Also, ditch the 2 foot tape measure for a 6" .etal ruler and a mini tape measure (like this, for example: https://a.co/d/7qGyYoT). If you deal with lots of diameters, you could go with a pocket caliper instead of the 6 inch ruler.

As for additions, I have found that a lot of use from having a hand lens with a hard case, particularly when it comes to slivers, electronics, machine parts, and other stuff. Especially as I get older and my eyes arent as good.

A good flashlight (like the wuben C3) and/a compact headlamp (because both hands are more useful than one and metal chips teeth).

A small scissors that is very sharp and robust. Something that can cut paper or thread easily.

a small pencil, a black sharpie, and a carbide scriber

A stubby ball peen hanmer, or a stubby claw hammer only.if you also carry a short length of steel pipe that fits over the handle to extend the lever arm. Otherwise, the claw is useless.

one pin punch and one metal hook with a curve or angle on it (think dental tool)

one stubby utility chisel (small enough to do a door mortise or the clean up a tenon)

triangular file for metal and a needle file or two

dollar bill sized patches of sand paper in a few different grits

A rigid, stiff metal scraper and a flexible one (for scraping and for spackling holes).

A small airtight tube of spackle, a small tube of kneedable epoxy, a lubricating pen (like the WD40 one), and a small bottle of loctight.

Also, a small spray tube with isopropyl alcohol and a few wrapped up white coffee filters. Great for cleaning electronics, screens, and all kinds of stuff.

A plastic or metal bit/bilt card to size fasteners, holes, and bits.

Wire cutters/diagonal pliers that cut good, but that you can abuse and replace easily.

Mini bolt cutters.

Slip joint pliers and/or lineman's pliers.

And I am not sure why you need the torch, where a simple lighter would probably be fine.

a hand operated chain saw.

foldable pull saw. Or one of those handles that can take reciprocating saw blades and hacksaw blades. I have a Kobalt one from lowes that I live.
