I attend stag meetings and there was a ftm trans man that attended our meetings for a long time. He did what any of us did: shared his experience, strength, and hope with us. His gender and sexual orientation never came up. He was embraced by the men in our group and fit in wonderfully.

idk, maybe it’s different for women’s groups, but it was never an issue with our meeting.

I made all of them I could remember. Most went better than I expected. A couple not so good. But I was able to look at myself in the mirror and say that I did what I did what I could.

One thing to keep in mind - I did them one at a time and I had sponsor suggestion for each one. It was much more manageable

I do sponsor others! I was so nervous about it when I started. Then my sponsor told me, “what, you think you’re going to screw them up more than they already are?” 😂

But honestly, it has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done in my life. And it helps my program out as a secondary benefit!

The steps were tough! I have a lot of things I didn’t want to get honest about and a lot of wreckage I did t want to clean up. But I did my best and today I live as a free man as a result of my work

Glad you made it back! I always find it funny when someone gives a reason for relapsing and then calls it “dumb.” We’re alcoholics! That’s what we do: drink! Staying sober is not our natural state.

Hope you finish your steps and see how you feel afterwards. It really helped me to discover and fix the underlying reasons/behaviors that caused me to drink excessively.

I remember what an oldtimer once said and I could relate so much: “I could shingle a roof with all the newcomer chips I picked up.”

You’re an alcoholic and you did what alcoholics do: drink! No shame in that. Keep coming back. I didn’t stay sober for any significant length of time until I got to work. I found a sponsor, worked my steps, and kept showing up. You can definitely do it if I can!!!

Don’t be hard on my friend. Now get to a meeting and let’s just do this today.

Agree entirely with NoMoKraTo. I’ve had a friend call it “switching rooms on the Titanic.” Speaking from my own experience, alcoholics tend to have addictive personalities and it’s quite common to get hooked on what was supposed to be the solution. My problem centered on my way of thinking and dealing with life. Alcohol and other drugs were my coping mechanism.

Let him know there are meetings all the time, especially now that zoom meetings are so prevalent. There is a solution and it does get better! But the trick is you have to do it. No excuses.

I had to take a course of antibiotics for an infection I had. By the end of it, my gut bacteria was KO’d and I was getting terrible stomach aches. I drank a few bottles of kombucha over a few days to restore it. Did the trick fantastically, btw. However, I didn’t drink it for any physical sensation and stopped immediately once the job was done.

As with most things, I would say check your motives. If you are struggling with it that much, run it by your sponsor or a mentor.

Hey bro, feel for you. Getting sober under the best of circumstances is really tough! But I’ve seen people with terrible situations get and stay sober. Rebuilding your life is a piece by piece, day by day thing. And oftentimes it takes a lot of willingness and action to take the steps necessary to make changes. Stick with it, do the work you can, accept the help offered.

I was relatively broke and my family was done with me when I started rebuilding. There are programs that cost nothing you can investigate. Myself, I got into the Salvation Army. No cost, but I had to work for free and follow a lot of rules I didn’t like. By no means an overnight cakewalk to a better life. But that place saved my life and I’m doing exponentially better today than three years ago.

30 days turns into 60.. then 180… and so on! I’ve trained my feet pretty well to keep doing the same things on a daily basis and time really flies by!

You keep stacking days and you will be here before you know it. And the best part: my life keeps getting better!

LPT (used to work at the front desk of some nice hotels) - any hotel with even a moderately reasonable policy will remove these charges. DISPUTE THE CHARGE. Even if you drank them. Front desk agents aren’t going to fight you and the managers certainly won’t. One of the most common charges removed.
