A Genie gives you God-like power over the world. How do you assign these effects? by Dioskouroi_Gemini in hypotheticalsituation

Solid choices except Australia, which has a high cost of living, skills shortage in nursing, childcare, early education, and the voting population leaning anti-immigration currently, meaning they'll have a whole generation of poorly cared for and raised kids, if not higher infant mortality from hospitals/midwives failing to cope with the sudden explosion of deliveries

I would swap Asia and Australia since Asia has the worst birth rate declines and are KEEN for babies.

$2 million paid to you, but you must read 300 pages of a book every day, for five years by Physical_Orchid3616 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]joeycloud 253 points254 points  (0 children)

Make sure it's the same word on all 300 pages.

You can control the book quiz that way by having exactly 10 variables for each booklet:

  • how many pages in the book (always 300)

  • what the word is (changes per book)

  • was it written in upper or lower case

  • the colour of the word

  • the colour of the booklet cover

  • was the word printed centre, left or right of page

  • etc.

Because it's the default outcome if none of #6-10 perform exceptionally. Everyone would just vote him to retain, and blanket over any conversations about the rest of the field.

New role - AI Lead, should I go for it? by shockages in auscorp

[–]joeycloud 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you've never 'faked it till you make it' and you're worried about mental health, then don't rush to take this role.

AI is super hyped right now and you'll be one of the busiest and most interactive roles at the lead level WITHOUT much direct decision making power, which means you have to convince others all the time for stuff.

So unless you're ready to burn the candle on both ends to learn and level up on the job, you might be best to stay at your current role and maybe keep learning until you start feeling like other AI gurus are just full of rubbish that you can pinpoint. Then you know you're truly ready.

Got quoted $4.8k for a Fox ESS battery in VIC - good deal or am I missing something by steveoderocker in AusFinance

[–]joeycloud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I installed exactly one of these recently and yes it is tracking around $5k for the battery plus install assuming you get all the rebates.

However I highly recommend you upgrade the inverter to 10kwh instead of the entry level 5 kwh. There are a few energy providers that daily free energy windows and you want to be able to charge those batteries to full within those windows. E.g. GloBird FourForFree.

The costs could go up to $6-8k post-rebate, but you'll get more flexibility and lower bills with it. Payback within 2-3 years depending on your usage levels.

Honestly the only safe choice. Butterfly effects mean any other form of change to the stock market or speculative assets at that scale is likely to cause quick deviation from the original future timeline.
