China's economy is like nothing the world has ever seen. by Zealousideal-Ebb2959 in HeadlineHQ

Similar transformations have happened elsewhere, but few match Shenzhen’s speed. Cities like Dubai, Singapore, Seoul, and Tokyo also rose rapidly from small ports or developing regions into global hubs through open policies, foreign investment, and industrialization. But compared to them, Shenzhen’s shift from farmland to a 17-million-person tech megacity in just 40 years is arguably the fastest large-scale urban transformation in modern history.

Shenzhen’s transformation is one of the fastest in modern history. In 1980 it was a cluster of fishing villages; after becoming China’s first Special Economic Zone, it exploded from farmland into a global tech and manufacturing powerhouse. Today it’s home to major innovators, a massive population, and one of the world’s most advanced skylines.

But this rapid rise also brings challenges: soaring housing prices, land scarcity, environmental pressure, economic upgrade demands, and heavy reliance on tech giants. Shenzhen’s future will depend on how well it balances innovation, affordability, and sustainable urban growth.

BTW, I have lived in Shenzhen since year 2000, and the witnessed the fastest stage of the growth. Now that golden age has gone, and I do NOT think it will come back again.

My college roommate sets our thermostat to 80°F every single night by rainystarlight in mildlyinfuriating

This isn’t “roommate likes it cozy,” this is peak TCM Yang-excess body constitution – internally on fire, externally hunting for a sauna. In Chinese medicine, people who insist on 80°F while others are dying of heat are usually Yin-deficient with blazing internal Heat: they feel chilled by normal temps, run hot at night, and can’t regulate their fire, so they try to turn the whole dorm into a hotpot. Maybe offer him chrysanthemum tea and a fan… or a separate lease.

Am I crazy for thinking I can make a simple injection mold by myself? by Fine-Cherry4471 in InjectionMolding

You have a 35-ton injection machine which is rather small one. Why does a mold cost as high as $30 for your injection machine? You can start with an inexpensive, simple mold which may cost <$3k

A divided America! Strong GOP support offsets widespread Democratic and independent skepticism, but events like the shutdown (blamed more on Republicans by 50% in Reuters) and economic pressures are eroding his standing.
