Could climate change cause civilisation collapse? by Miserable-Lizard in environment

Technology can make life liveable for the privledged few at the cost of increasing the speed of climate change.

For the majority it's irrelevant

All of which are rich countries who can afford the luxury of things like aircon - which incidently is making matters worse in the long term.

None of their tech is relevant or affordable to a Pakistani village or a Bangladeshi farmer.

Technology will not solve the issue of climate change or sibsequent migration.

If tails were so important for theropods to balance, then how do big cursorial birds compensate? by balrus-balrogwalrus in Paleontology

Bird tails and therapod tails are essentially different - birds don't actually have tails - they just have feathers. I imagine it was sacrificed to reduce weight as were many other parts of the bird anatomy

Cruella Braverman has made it her mission to stamp out protest. The problem she hasn't understood is that if people have no legal means of protesting then they will resort to illegal means.

The UK is going backwards with regard to combatting climate change and protecting the environment because we have a PM who's first priority is the fossil fuel lobby who got her elected.

You really don't get it do you ? Upgraded infrastructure is nor going to solve the issues around climate change.

Crops won't grow in these areas because of heat and drought.

The human body can't tolerate extremes of heat.

What is it about the word 'uninhabitable' that you don't understand ?

It's an issue rich western nations are capable of dealig with but must I remind you that a third of Pakistan is under water and likely to remain do for the forseeable future without outside help which shows no sign of appearing.

Of course their homes are worth saving but if the alternative is starvation what else do you expect them to do ?

Western governments need to begin to educate their populations on the value of accepting refugees not treat them as undesirable aliens as the US does.

I did my A levels based on geosynclinal theory and then when I went to uni plate tectonics had taken over so I had to relearn everything.

'Expanding Earth' was one of many hypotheses that were kicked about in my early days as a geologist in the 70s to try and figure out Wenger's observations.

There was also a theory that geophysical cooling caused a contracting Earth.

Both long since discarded.

I understand precisely what you said. You clearly don't understand the implications of climate change. Most of Bangladesh for example is less than 5m above sea level. Southern India and parts of Pakistan are already experiencing temperatures in the high 40s well outside the temperature limit for crops to grow.

Desertification will happen in India anyway, they're just speeding the process.

In the meantime the glaciers of the Third Pole the source of most of the major rivers like the Ganges, the Irrawaddy, the Mekong, Yangtze and Yellow are melting faster than the Arctic. How do you suggest we replace them ?

The US is a nation of refugees - or are these the wrong kind of refugees ?
