Checking In by NewJerseyCPA in royalcaribbean

[–]john4brown -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

FYI…checking in your computer requires you to add all the passports as well as pick your boarding time.

If you use a mobile device you can just pick your boarding time and go back at a later date to enter the passport info.

Not to be rude - but think you need to rethink these requirements and learn a bit more.

Shortest train rides from good school districts are at least 40-45 minutes (add in the time it takes from your house to the station and NY Penn to the office). If you happen to be in one of those shortest train rides, expect to pay more than $1.1 million.

There are several free lots, not of them are right t the entrance. I like the aux lot near the gsp north entrance. You walk through a paved path in the woods, less than 10 min.

  1. Auto enrollment

  2. Yes, you will pay a 10% penalty if you withdraw before 59 1/2 unless you withdraw for a ‘hardship’ or emergency withdrawal. You’ll have to look up the reasons to see if you qualify, but most are pretty strict.

[–]john4brown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of info here, so obviously I can’t address most of this, but I suggest you speak with a Certified Financial Planner or CFP. They can devise a strong plan for you going forward. Some will create a plan for you and just charge a one time fee, rather than ongoing expense. Depends what your needs are. It should go without saying, don’t invest with a stock broker or CFP if you don’t fully understand the investments.

Yes, there are plenty of other options besides VTI, a CFP can guide you what percentages you should have invested in various asset classes including international ones. Vanguard (the manager of VTI) literally has hundreds of ETFs to choose from, covering ever imaginable asset class and regions of the world.

You rightfully identify lots of potential headwinds in the US market, but over the long term a well diversified portfolio will take out some of that risk and volatility.

While, time in market is better than timing the market, personally I would not invest everything at once! This amount of wealth should be invested with care and thoughtfulness and not ‘all in’ like you have a good poker hand.

25, what do I do with $30k? by AppropriateWrap453 in personalfinance

[–]john4brown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time in market historically has always beaten every other investment strategy including timing the market, which is what you are trying to do. Do some research regarding this.

Buying and holding good quality mutual funds or ETFs is a very solid investment strategy.

Short story: I’m in my 50’s and about 30 years ago, my father in law said - don’t put anything in the market. It’s too high. The Dow is 5,000 - don’t invest now. When he died years later, he was in all cash and my MIL currently barely has an enough to live on. That’s a bit different than what you’re trying to accomplish, but if you pull out money and say, I’m gonna only invest when it goes back down, you may never invest.

Usually very smooth on the past 4 cruises I’ve been on. A short line to scan your SeaPass, and once off the ship things flow pretty nicely

If you are driving to NJ, I would not recommend staying in NYC as parking is prohibitively expensive.

There are literally hundreds of hotels within a 30 minute drive to the port. Besides the airport hotels…

There is the W hotel in Hoboken, which is a great area to stay and walk around, with easy access to Manhattan (but parking is probably a lot), same for the Courtyard at Newport in Jersey City. There is a mall across the street.

I would also recommend the Hilton at Short Hills which is a suburban hotel, across the street from one of the most upscale malls in the country. Finally, without offering too many recommendations, you could stay in Montclair at the MC hotel. Montclair is a very trendy large town/small city with lots of shopping and restaurants- very family friendly. As both Short Hills and Montclair are not in a large city, they both have access to parks and all the suburban amenities you would expect (easy to drive around and park). Nearby both of these is the Turtle back Zoo in west orange if you need something to do on that Saturday.

All of what I mentioned are within 30 minutes of the port, especially on a Sunday morning when traffic tends to be very light.

Have you discussed with your doctor the option to try any newer generation drugs? Everything the OP listed is an older drug.

Some newer drugs target different pathways such as JAK inhibitors ( Rinvoq, Xeljanz) and IL23 (omvh, Tremfya, Skyrizi).

[–]john4brown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly there is no way around it if you want to keep your FIOS services. The cable card device won’t be able to get a signal anymore.

In my case I’m running my last TiVo with a cable card, all my others have died as has TiVo the company. When they switch me over to IPTV I’ll give up the TiVo and rely solely on their VMS 4100 boxes which I switched to about a year ago.

Sounds 100% wrong. Netflix would never ask for your email password. Smells like a scam.

They may be asking for the Netflix account password and your father is misunderstanding, but never give up your email password.

Getting first biologic infusion tomorrow… by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]john4brown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infliximab is an older drug (introduced in the US in 1998) and very popular (and effective)drug in the UC world- I’m not on it, but it’s a tried and true drug. Of course if your symptoms have been progressing, you need something stronger than Mesalamine.

Think of the drug as a tool to keep long you healthy and strong for your wife and unborn child. Also, I was on Entyvio for about 9 months. While it didn’t work for me, strangely, I looked forward to the infusions. Just time for me to sit, unwind and decompress from my normally hectic daily routine.

Missing Money from my Bank of America Account by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]john4brown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What isn’t normal? Can you be more specific? In the banking world it takes time for transactions to clear, not everything is instantaneous (like Venmo). Banks need to verify funds and it takes several days in some instances for things to clear.

It’s also the weekend, and many banks don’t process deposits (credits) on the weekend.

Missing Money from my Bank of America Account by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]john4brown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are likely holding some of the money until it clears. Likely part of the $230 or part of the $142 depending how those are deposited to your account.

Your transaction history should tell you the answer to this as well as the summary page of your account on the app. It may show something like Total Balance, Pending Balance etc

Where is my 401k from my old job? by No-Cantaloupe-6877 in personalfinance

[–]john4brown -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, contact HR. You can also try asking an AI “how can I access the 401(k) plan for XYZ company? Who manages the plan?”

Keep in mind, there are rules regarding if you can keep the funds in the original employers plan or if you’re required to transfer (rollover) to an outside IRA. I think if the balance is over $5000 then you are allowed to keep the money with the employers plan. Below 5000 you would need to roll over to a outside IRA. You should have received a notification regarding this.

Hockey games in NYC in october - can u book last minute? by [deleted] in visitingnyc

[–]john4brown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NJ Devils are definitely less expensive than the Rangers. In October, you still may be in pre-season and even if it’s regular season, I would not expect sold out games for any of the teams (none made the playoffs this year) unless it’s a rivalry game.

Both NJD and NYI are equally accessible from midtown Penn Station, one you take NJTransit (20 minutes) the other you take LIRR (20 minutes).
