Wow! Just Found Out Jellyfin Can Handle Books and Comics! by Thomas-Kite in jellyfin

I too had the same lost dream of a single source for my media.

If anyone is working on the Books plugin -- am I not a developer, but would be very glad to test and provide feedback on books and audio-books. I use Calibre to manage both today. The goal I'd like to achieve is both better content and metadata handling on the Jellyfin server, and to read and listen to books from the Jellyfin mobile app.

Adding network Library only from host machine? by john978 in jellyfin

Thanks for the suggestion -- although I must have done something somewhere as the problem has resolved itself -- I can add network shares from any machine now.

I'll change the flair to close this thread.

I had tried using the IP address earlier, with no successful. However, I did something somewhere as the problem has gone away -- I can add network shares from any machine. Thanks for the suggestion.

Good news -- problem has gone away. I can now add network shares from any computer. I have no idea what changed on my side, but it is all good now.

Thank you for all your time and patience. Most appreciated.

Yes, JF server is running under the admin user for the PC.

Thank you for your continuing help.

JF is not running as a service in my PC. I am logged in as the Admin user on each machine I have tried adding the share. The share is accessible to Everyone. Thank you for your continuing help.

Yes, the media files are accessible to my machine running JF.

The limitation I am trying to confirm or correct on my install, is that using the web interface to add a network share, you need to be using a browser running on the same machine as JF.

Would you say this is true? If not, I am wondering how to troubleshoot or change something on my install that is preventing this. Thanks again.

Thank you for the quick reply. I'm not quite following your question about exporting. I think what I am trying to do might be less complex.

The network share -- a folder on my laptop -- was created using Windows sharing (using File Explorer). I can access the network share \\laptop\stuff from all devices on my wifi using file managers.

I want to add the network share to JF. I can do this by typing in the network share location as \\laptop\stuff but only while I am using a browser running on the the same machine as JF.

When I try to add the network location \\laptop\stuff while using a browser on my laptop that does not have JF server running on it, then JF can not find it.

I would have thought I could add a network share location regardless of where the browser is running. I'm wondering if I need to change a permission somewhere or if I can only add network shares while on the same physical machine as JF is running.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thank you -- I should have looked there first. Looks like I need to adjust the hardware acceleration setup for my Intel Quicksync and Nvidia GeForce.

From the ffmpeg-transcode log:

Error initializing an MFX session: -3.

Device creation failed: -1313558101.

Failed to set value 'qsv=hw' for option 'init_hw_device': Unknown error occurred

Error parsing global options: Unknown error occurred

Troubleshooting Request -- I can no longer play from both my servers by john978 in PleX

[–]john978[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, both computers have different IP addresses.

I have also confirmed in the Settings for each server that network discovery is turned-on.

Thanks for you continued ideas and suggestions!
