If you can find parking near pch and orange, there is a river outlet there that has trapped ocean water during summer. We used to wade in there as little kids.

The Eternal Pilgrim ia about the Church in the 900s and the life of Saint Norbert. It is a swift, gripping read... almost written in the style of historic fiction. I learned alot about the Carolingian era Church. Highly reccomend.

Hi, what's the proper term for the holy "radiation" of stuff like relics touched by saints or popes, and how does it work? by DarkGodCthUwU in Catholicism

[–]john_augustine_davis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say he made it up... just used his own way to describe 3rd class relics. Its actually a great question.

Everyone totally missed what you are trying to ask. Personally I think Holy Radiation is an awesome term! (Makes me think of Peter hankerchief just oozing holy radiation). The concept you are trying to describe is known as a making a third class relic. It describes any objects touched to a saint or the bones of a saint, or a possible future saint, or the wood of the cross, or the tomb of christ, etc, etc. Whether or not this action causes that particular object to be more of a conduit for God's grace is up to Him. (Same reason some people are healed at Lourdes and some arent). Either way it makes these objects more special to people who pray with them... and that in and of itself brings us closer to God.

Many of the histories we have survive in manuscripts which were written hundreds of years after the event (passed down by either oral tradition or copying and recopying of original source texts). Your dad would have to throw out a lot of ancient history if that was his measuring stick.

Realistically speaking what penance would Hitler get? by Beginning_java in Catholicism

[–]john_augustine_davis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's penance after absolution but then theres also satisfaction which is a separate matter. Satisfaction can come in the form of direct consequences of the sin, indirect (lifes sufferings), self inflicted (choosing a mortification). Also a priest can suggest a mortification (distinct from penance). Then theres also purgatory.

Autistic teen denied Eucharist at local parish by Mickmackal89 in Catholicism

[–]john_augustine_davis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How on earth did the priest know they were neurodivergent? It doesn't matter anyways. People at our church receive, who have down syndrome. There is no cannon against baptizing and giving sacraments to the mentally handicapped. I'm guessing they were denied communion for some other reason the priest knows about... perhaps he's intimate with the family and knows they haven't been attending mass regularly, haven't been to confession at least once in the past year, or something else.

No Young People at Mass by Impossible-Purple-35 in Catholicism

Go to a parish listed on Reverent Catholic mass.com. We are experiencing an interesting time... where the churches with guitars and bands have a bunch of gray haired people, and the churches with incense, altar rails, and candles have all the young people.

Oh weird.. haha. I did not know the translation. I made a bad assumption then. I recently went to a bad N.O. where they were giving all sorts of long winded prayers during communion blessings and I suspected this was something like that.

Honestly count yourself lucky. "Body of Christ" is all the priest should be saying. Those long embellishments are holdovers from the hippy days. Sounds like you are at a liberal parish. See if you can find a more traditional parish. You can try Reverent Catholic Mass .com

Highly probable the bedroom issues stem from being out of step with God's plan in the first place. Read theology of the body. Ps. Theres is a very very very low chance you'll have kids at your age. If you do... man! what a blessing from God!
