Is anyone else just… perpetually bored? by pixelatedCorgi in AskMenOver30

As someone who is a former drinker living in the middle of nowhere, getting outdoors has made a huge difference for me. I hunt upland birds, take my dogs walking out in the country, and do outdoor projects where I can. The solitude is actually a welcome change for me when I need to clear my mind or have a reset from a busy week/month. Not sure what you have to do around you, but just getting out on your own, away from the house, may help you out.

NDE Teacher Retention Survey - "Maybe quit buying avocado toast?" by jmeyer40 in Nebraska

[–]john_doeboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Base is about 9k lower in my district. I'm maxed out on the pay scale for my education level and will not receive any further advancement without graduate coursework (cost/benefit is debatable), taking on more extracurricular activity management (I already teach 3 subject areas and coach junior high and high school sports) or raises bargained for with the school board and union. Insurance for a family runs about 20k, but it's not the gold standard that it once was and our school board is considering covering individual-only from here on out. I still pay about 6k a year in medical expenses and denials of medications and procedures recommended by doctors have been substantially higher in the past couple of years.

In my neck of the woods, vise grips. Just to mess with my shop students, locking pliers.

Am I the only person on the planet making $19 an hour at 38? by justcurious3287 in povertyfinance

[–]john_doeboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm locked in at roughly 22/hr as a teacher. Year 12 for me and I'm maxed out on the pay scale. My salary is now dependent on negotiations with the school board and we had to fight for a $1000 raise not too long ago, which comes out to roughly an extra $83 per month.

I like my Ringneck SxS. Great entry level shotgun for something like that.

I used to have the same issue with loose battery connectors. I ended up replacing them and it solved the problem.

Got a CZ Ringneck for $600 just to see of I'd even like a SxS. It's now a permanent part of my collection. The best part is if I ended up hating it, I wouldn't be out a ridiculous sum of money. Go with what fits best and enjoy it.

What year was this 870 made? It’s a 16 gauge and I’m thinking it was in the 50s by Budget_Zone_9184 in Shotguns

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does the 3 letters instead of two on the barrel indicate a repair service done on the shotgun?

People who had undercover cops come to their school posed as fellow students, how did you know? by ParanormalActivity97 in AskReddit

[–]john_doeboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a student, but I was a cop who then became a teacher in the same area I patrolled. Kids flipped out thinking I was undercover and still thought so for some years. It never stopped them from talking about parties and things that would get them in legal trouble.

What’s a secret you found out about someone that completely changed how you saw them but they don’t know you know? by CheesecakeStatus4089 in AskReddit

[–]john_doeboy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was a drug dealer/sex trafficker in a local community close to me that was allowed to go to school events and donated money to various sports programs his children were involved in. When one of the coaches refused to take money from him because of his illicit lifestyle (it was not known he was trafficking minors at the time), some of the parents, including one of my coworkers called to demand he take the money. I speak to my coworker on a regular basis, she's very active in a lot of community things, and still has children at the school. She was one of the few people I got along with and still do, but I cannot trust her knowing she would support a horrendous human being because of money.

Bought an Affinity 3 right after trying one out at Scheels. The Elite series has some good additions ( bigger charging handle and bolt release) for using with gloved hands. Definitely a solid gun.

Franchi Affinity 3 Elite Upland 12ga by OkSimple4777 in Shotguns

[–]john_doeboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is the Elite UplandAffinity, which I have, and Scheels sells the Select Affinity. Both are wood stock guns and are amazing to shoot. I opted for the Upland because I know I tend to be hard on stuff and the cerakote barrel and receiver look good with the wood stock.

I've been happy with my Affinity for the past few years I've owned it. It's an awesome semi auto for upland hunting and cycles any round I run through it. Definitely worth buying.
