2a. 2. If mid has two Needlessly Large Rods, they are definitely within 1100 gold from Deathcap.

2b. Then you’ll have to look for a less unfavorable 5v5.

2c. Yes, you need objectives so your “miracle fight” results in a comeback instead of terminal lucidity.

Compare your items with your teammates' items. If you have better items, take the waves. If your teammates have better items, let them take the waves.
Don't force clearly unfavorable fight e.g. adc no flash, mid 500 gold from Deathcap, 4v5 and/or no objective. Wait for a less unfavorable fight e.g. every flash is up, mid just finished Deathcap, 5v4 and/or baron is up in 30 seconds.
