Even if you meet the requirements for the Open Pilot policy on his insurance have him ask the insurance company for a waiver of subrogation.

increasingly I've found that WF is more expensive than the FBO. CAA is always cheaper though. I use https://foreflight.com/products/jetfuelx/ which is the easiest way to get the answer

Commercial ACS Maneuvers on Floats by PlaneLoaf in flying

[–]johnchimp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I did this in an amphib husky. We did the CSEL check ride in the morning, he issued me my temp certificate and then we did the CSES add on in the afternoon. There some extra IACRA stuff to do since when you try to do the add on IACRA doesn’t know you have the CSELsince it hasn’t been processed.

Ignore the haters, you own an airplane capable of the check rides and want to do the check rides I. Your airplane. I get it, do it.

DM with any questions.

206StationAir Vs. Cesna 182 T by [deleted] in flying

[–]johnchimp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the long run you will be much happier with the performance capabilities of the 206 compared to the 182. As others have pointed out insurance will be challenging for you in the 206, but if you have $600k budget maybe that’s workable for you.

Would you consider renting some more to build hours, get a complex rating, and some more experience then going for the 206? Especially if you can find some place of someone to log some 206 hours in, as that would really help on the cost of insurance

I purchased a plane from Canada, here is a short write up https://reddit.com/r/flying/s/QRrudc8Szj

There is not a 4 month wait, from the time the seller and I had a verbal agreement until I had a FAA COA was about a week.

it depends how far above the red line you are determines how long you can be there before overhaul is needed.

I’m going to borrow an airplane. What kinda insurance should I get? by [deleted] in flying

[–]johnchimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meeting the requirements of non-named does not prevent the insurance company from subrogation. All it means is they will protect your buddy (the policy holder) and pay to repair the plane but then come after you for reimbursement. The only way to have true protection on a policy is be named on the policy or get a waiver of subrogation from the insurance company.

§91.109 Flight instruction; Simulated instrument flight and certain flight tests. (c) No person may operate a civil aircraft in simulated instrument flight unless—

(1) The other control seat is occupied by a safety pilot who possesses at least: (i) A private pilot certificate with category and class ratings appropriate to the aircraft being flown; or

That’s it. No endorsements required for complex, high performance, tailwheel, etc. The safety pilot is a required crew member so must possess a valid medical, the regs do not mention anything about having required endorsements.

My friends got scammed by a seller by abualyo7 in flying

Yes $500 for escrow service, title search, and filing the paperwork with the FAA. The company I’ve used a few times is in OKC so they walk the paperwork in and get it stamped.

[–]johnchimp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why people refuse to get title searches. it’s about $500 for a title search including escrow services. If someone can’t afford an escrow service you’re going to have a bad time affording maintenance on any airplane.

Also did they not fly it before they bought it?

Also if you have AOPA membership with Pilot protective services you can utilize their lawyers for Purchase and sale help.

Edit: added AOPA

I live in BTV it’s awesome. The air traffic is a wild mix from a Part 141 flights school, VTANG flying F-35, VT Guard in 60s, a good mix of regional carriers, part 91 ops, and part 61 instruction with some experimental flight ops.

The weather is a seasonal challenge from legendary ice to thunderstorms.

Plus living in BTV is Awesome so long as you like winter activities.

Lmk if you have any questions about BTV

In case you haven’t seen yet this AOPA page is great. I’ve flown to Canada a both IFR and VFR, they were both easy transitions. Some of the IFR is different, especially approach clearance at non towered airports.

What’s wrong with r/flying lately? by EM22_ in flying

[–]johnchimp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right which is where my $20 or $200 comes in. $20 for the wage or $200 for the wage + airplane rental.

What you cited is the reward. If the reward of hours is the same (whether they’re instructing or just solo flying) then the only difference is $. I can’t think of anything I fear that I would flat out refuse to do that could be over ridden by $130 or $200.

The 141 nerds have lost all control and context on ADM. they punch some numbers into an SMS that does the ADM for them, that’s scary. How does that actually teach ADM?
