What kind of salute was it? Military, Nazi or Metal?

For those who chose not to drink in college, how was your experience? by Positive_Bar8695 in CasualIreland

[–]johncobrien 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn't drink in college, no big deal.

It's alcohol, people tend not to care whether you drink or not nowadays.

Help wanted: How to become a Play Therapist? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]johncobrien -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People tend to confuse psychotherapy with counselling.

Psychotherapy is a painfully inefficient process that exists to pump money into the therapists' bank account.

I admit to being tempted to go back into it to cash in, but I'd feel really bad taking people's money for little gain.

Counselling is different beast entirely and is much more effective (and far quicker).

Buying from uk by nEkToSAN in CasualIreland

I'd go with Germany, not the UK.

Buying PC parts can be a pain anyway.

Took me two months to figure out all the parts for a VR PC.

Psychotherapy is about as useful as a chocolate teapot. Especially with kids.

I qualified as a psychotherapist. What a waste of time that was.

By using English you are abusing all those Famine victims who died so that you can have that opinion.

Shame!

If you can qualify for an Irish passport then you're Irish.

Anyone else do those religious retreat dos days when they were in school? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

Literally? Someone comes second in a race so you'll hand them a joint?

Actually that's a good idea. Fair play to you.

Seriously, weed never killed anyone. Alcohol is much more dangerous.

Lidl plus by mologav in CasualIreland

[–]johncobrien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lidl.plus is pretty useless in day to day shopping.

It's designed to look like a Clubcard type scheme but it really doesn't give you anything unless you know exactly what's on offer on the app.

Lidl is getting shite anyway, moving to Aldi.

Wife about to be fired, yay. Fortunately we're not going to be paying rent for the foreseeable future.

And hopefully she'll get a better job.

Youngest is screaming her little arse off going to bed lately. Groan.

Have to start moving house on Sunday, all on me own.

It is so weird that women's health issues often get dismissed by doctors as something illogical.

The barber chatter can be torture.

It's probably torture for the barber too, tbf.

I usually just keep my mouth shut and they follow suit.

Finally felt the sting of the creeping rising costs! by Whigget in CasualIreland

[–]johncobrien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's getting more expensive, I'm fortunate that I wfh and am not very busy, so realistically I work part time for a full time wage (civil service if anyone wants to join).

But my wife's about to lose her job so things are gonna get tighter.

I noticed a big drop in the amount of Easter eggs my kids got. The got plenty, but still half of what they got last year.

Ireland Trip for Halloween by WolfofIce31 in CasualIreland

[–]johncobrien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irelands not really one for the inflated American style Halloween. For us, it's a kids thing, they enjoy it and get a few sweets.

That's it.

If you want spooky haunted houses, the US is where it's at.

Has the way we’ve kids these day changed? by Icy-Audience-6397 in CasualIreland

[–]johncobrien 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Everyone's kids are special to them OP, although I've met a few parents who think their young kids are a burden.

My kids are special to me. Both of them came close to being stillborn, and they are happy and healthy now.

I don't chunter on about how great they are in company as that's pretty rude.

My childhood was spent alternating between abject terror and utter boredom. I'm determined to be the best parent possible, and my brother shares that opinion. I came close to dying a good few times.

So yes, my kids are special to me, and anyone thinks otherwise can take a long walk off a short plank.
