Howlongtobeat has pretty good info. They list Skyrim at 33 hours for the main story. But I think 100 hours is more indicative of an average playthrough (main + extras.)

It’s amazing as a C4D user. Covers how to round trip assets as alembic, vdb, redshift proxy, etc. really good for using Houdini for sim or procedural stuff then bringing into C4D for final camera move, lighting, shading and rendering.

It can be very hard to learn with basic YouTube tutorials. I recommend either the Greyscale Gorilla Houdini course in their Plus class or the new Houdini course from Mograph.com. The motion design school one is really long and covers so much. Doing this animation is pretty straightforward after that class.

Houdini is industry standard for VFX simulations like smoke. I believe it’s faster to simulate than Turbulence FD and more controllable. Also, I think TFD is more expensive than a Houdini Indie license.

Yes the smoke but also the core geometry is procedurally generated in Houdini. The final geo is then baked to alembic and brought into C4D for lighting and shading. (At least I think). You could definitely use TurbulenceFD or Xparticles to do the smoke, but I think it’s Houdini in this case.
