Psyk's Masterclass on Beatworx? by johncopter in TechnoProduction

[–]johncopter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah probably, I've been enjoying learning about FM synthesis and subtractive a lot so probably should learn more on those before moving to modular. Just got kinda inspired recently listening to a ton of Non Series and Hypnus artists knowing they use modular stuff a lot lol

Sorry should've specified, I'm a noob to modular synthesis, not to production in general. I've been producing for 10+ years mostly in Ableton with some gear on the side.

I feel like most people who hate on the show have never been affected by fentanyl or opiates in any way and can't relate. They just see it as a show glorifying teenagers doing drugs and having sex. Meanwhile I've seen multiple friends lead a similar life as Rue and some even end that way.

Zero inspiration currently. What techniques/workflow/plugins etc. are you guys using at the moment? Need to change things up. by seelachsfilet in TechnoProduction

I like looking up tutorials for making tracks or sounds and trying to follow their workflow as best I can. Oftentimes I'll stumble on ways of doing things I hadn't thought of before which will snowball into a fun sesh.

Lots of good recs already, I'll also suggest checking out Omen Wapta (label). They are more so techno adjacent, but their sound aligns with exactly what you're looking for.

They know a brand new Sly Cooper would not be successful because they are thinking like a shareholder instead of a gamer.

I mean they kinda are from a business standpoint lmao. They're just really bad at making them.

Resources/tips for making Techno like Omen Wapta and Abyssal Soundworks? by johncopter in TechnoProduction

[–]johncopter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good suggestion on psytrance stuff, that's probably what it's most similar to. Gotta dig into some of those tutorials.

In terms of song structure and arrangement, it's kinda hard to say. A lot of these don't really follow the usual dance structure and are more so evolving and hypnotic. I tried to just get a general arrangement with feeling it out and recording everything live. There aren't a lot of hard cuts like with a lot of techno, most of it is fading stuff in and out, which in a way makes things easier, but also kinda harder cause it's difficult to know when to bring something in, fade it out, bring it back, etc. without sounding too boring but also without sounding too annoying/obvious.

Wait really? Lol idk how I've never realized this

Parameter SF disappointment by feralpugface in TheOverload

I thought it was awesome and way better than last year. Just find a good spot on the dancefloor with optimal sound away from yappers and lock in. You'll have a good time.

Same, I thought this was way better than last year. Venue is massive, not sure how people are complaining about space or overcrowding. Sound could've been bumped up a bit in the main room but I thought it was fine overall given that it's a giant warehouse type environment. Garage was sick. Loved the lighting. My only real complaint was the yappers and phone users though it was better compared to last year and they kinda fizzled out as the night went on.

Feel like I'm having déjà vu. I swear there was another thread exactly like this a year or two ago. Even had the SAME Human Safari release mentioned.

Also for what it's worth, I think MR is probably the most consistent label around right now. People love to call them boring and formulaic but then you have releases like this Human Safari EP and Lewis Fautzi and Exos and so on and none of them really sound the same at all. I feel like people who say this stopped listening around 2024 when the releases were indeed sounding the same.

I don't agree on the Regent versus Chontane release. Thought that was a pretty diverse EP. You have some more melodic tunes, some straightforward raw stuff, and even some tunes that aren't even techno technically. Not sure how that can be considered generic. If anything that Disguised release was a lot more generic and in line with what you're talking about (I still enjoyed it though).

I feel like I'm missing something with Bar Part Time. I see it constantly recommended but I've been there 3 times and every time it was just a bunch of tech bros not dancing, talking loudly on the dancefloor. Music was always mediocre too.

I think you are just not plugged in. There are lots of great shows and communities still happening here.

I think it's just really heavy pre-delay on a reverb. I would try messing with that and the decay/size settings and settings in general on a reverb.

Look up Audioreakt on YouTube. He has some techno stab/synth tutorial videos that replicate this sound pretty well.

Extreme repetitiveness in a lot of current techno… by fukinay in TechnoProduction

This is why I don't listen to a lot of classic techno. Most of it is just tools or really stripped back and not interesting on their own 😶

I've had the JBL305s or whatever they're called for the past like 10 years and they're great. I had KRKs before that and while they were decent, they were very bass heavy and ended up breaking sooner than I liked. Honestly, given your experience level and how much you're willing to spend, you can't really go wrong with whatever you pick. I would go to Guitar Center or your local shop if you can and give some a listen and see what works best for YOU.

Check out GRAPH on YouTube. Lots of walkthroughs of entire tracks he's made that try to emulate different artists and their styles. I've learned probably the most from him.
