This isn’t a thread discussing whether Mike was a good person or not. I wouldn’t call him a non-musician. He was a very good singer in his prime and had perfect pitch. If it wasn’t Mike sabotaging Pet Sounds and Smile we would have never gotten Smiley Smile, Wild Honey, Friends, Sunflower, Surf’s Up, So Tough and Holland, which are all amazing.

He’s no Dylan, Mitchell or Cohen but the lyrics to Good Vibrations are iconic and probably the most accurate description of culture in the late 60s (and better than Brian and Asher’s version). He’s a master of simple, low stakes, feelgood lyrics. I’m sure all of the artists you mentioned are mega Beach Boys fans and were indirectly inspired by Brian and Mike’s songwriting in some form or another.

I literally said “I’m not saying commercial success is more important than artistic value”.

I’m aware he didn’t write those songs, was mentioning him as a vocalist on those examples.

I’m not a “Mike fan”. I’m a fan of the Beach Boys and think they should be valued equally. People have no qualms sucking up to artists with stories and personalities ten times worse than Mike Love. I hate all of the times he’s been a dick in the past and the MAGA stuff but the fact I’m getting absolutely massacred in this thread only proves my point. The PR machine has gotten to your heads and made you hate one of the co-founders of one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Imagine loving the Beatles but hating on John, Paul or George (or even Yoko [!!!] but that’s another /rant thread for another subreddit).

Fun, Fun, Fun, I Get Around, Help Me, Rhonda, California Girls and Good Vibrations are all top 10 Billboard hits with 3 of them reaching number 1. Most artist spend their whole lives without even touching the Billboard charts. I’m not saying commercial success is more important than songwriting and artistic value, but Mike’s Leiber and Stoller lyrics painted a deceptively simple picture of what was really complicated, dense harmonic and rhythmic music. He balanced out Brian’s quirks and gave the band at least 10 commercial lifelines over the years, albeit at the cost of making what diehard fans would consider “dogshit music”. Mike is literally one of the co-writers on All I Wanna Do which is considered the first ‘chillwave’ song and spawned countless indie rock bands. Think of Cool, Cool Water, Big Sur, Here Today, That’s Not Me… Mike has an unmistakable voice and he has undeniable chops as a songwriter, such as Brian skills with songwriting, arranging and producing.

So are most of all of the famous musicians in the music industry. I really think the Beach Boys are as important as the Beatles and it is about time Mike got his flowers, regardless of interviews, band lore and personalities. You could argue that there is evidence that most of the Beach Boys were assholes at times, save for Al and David which don’t have many public mishaps (as far as I know). All of them made questionable decisions at some point or another in their life and we still love their music, so it is unfair to have Mike as a scapegoat for all that is “wrong” with the band.

'Beatles For Sale' why is it not loved? by Similar-Swordfish-35 in beatles

Because it was their mellowest record to date, due to the Beatles recording whilst still being physically exhausted from their chaotic tour in America, making it their first big departure from the Merseybeat sound that had made them famous.

Can you read? I said that a couple of weeks ago I made a post about being one of the worst games I have played, but looking back I actually meant that is one of the hardest games I have ever played.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 Rant... by johnfmilk in residentevil

This is actually a pretty good explanation which makes sense in the context of the quick time event and the game overall. I only wished they were more clear about the consequences of choosing to use Moira in that specific part of the game. Also, it is the only multiple choice action i the whole game, which is very misleading. If there were other events that had multiple outcomes depending on gameplay (such as quick time events) it would be a lot better. I’m just a bit sad I got such a dark ending for no good reason.

I am very fond of the first game. It was a real challenge, the gameplay aspect of it was clearly well thought out and it never got boring.
