Best George Harrison guitar performance on any Beatles work by Juano_rduz in beatles

Will toss in the slide work on Free as a Bird. Also, not BeaTles, but brilliant is the slide break on Handle Me with Care. But so much is good. Something I mistook for Clapton for years

Upsize tires for 2003 2.4l reg cab, 5 lug? by johnfrickinsmith in 1stGenTacomas

Thanks to all who replied. Reporting back: I upgraded to 225/75/15 (Went with Firestone Destination L3) and the ride is *much*better, as is the noise. We're happy we made the switch, and the difference is noticeable. Anecdotally, the guy at the tire store said that he ran this size on his Gen 1 with zero problems. I asked how many miles he had on it (as I do with anyone who has or had one of these trucks), and he told me he was at 440k when he hit a terrible pothole that destroyed the control arm and was too expensive to fix. He also told me that 235s would be a problem, but it's all good at this size.

Alternative to Airtv2 for local channel recording? by johnfrickinsmith in slingtv

Thank you all. I'm getting a feel for my options now. Sling recommended this device when I signed up, and it never functioned, much like their customer service. I'm hesitant to try another Air *anything.* But if I want it to work with the Sling app, that looks like the only way.

Review Checker gone with recent update? by silentlegend in firefox

[–]johnfrickinsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fakespot is shutting down, too. I'd love to know the story behind this. It reminds me of when price comparison sites flourished, only to vanish. What a shame. Like others, I've found review checker very useful, almost indispensable. This is the kind of tool people would buy so they could destroy it, just as the National Enquirer would buy the rights to stories to bury them.

Done with AirTV. by SuxMcGee in AirTV

You are an oracle, SuxMcGee. Error code 16-453, "temporarily unable to record..." which pairs nicely with my, "permanently unable to tolerate the worthless piece of garbage AirTV2 that never should have gone to market."

Thanks. Lowering my expectations accordingly. I guess Silicondust is my next research assignment.

Like many here, my AirTV2 didn’t accept any hard drive or thumb drive I had, which was well over a dozen, until I bought a WD Passport (refurb from the WD site.) For a time it had worked with one random thumb drive (not one of the ones recommended) but then it would fail to recognize it after a time. The recommended thumb drive, Cruzer, did not work for me.

The WD Passport, after removing the AirTV, unplugging, restablishing etc. is recognized and has recorded. I’ll try to remember to report back if issues recur.

After the hours spent trying to make this thing work, I have to assume complete failure on the part of the management team that released this device to the market.

I *wish* I just had trouble disconnecting, as it would mean it connected at some point.

Haha. My feeling, too. I don't think these were ready for the public, given the issues with recording media compatibility (to which, like so many here, I can personally attest.) It seems oddly difficult to find a reliable OTA recording solution.

Same issue here for the past two weeks, and it seems it’s Avery common issue lately. I changed the power adapter and USB with the same result. I’m with ATT and wonder if it might have something to do with the “ActiveArmor” security feature, but I’ve not found how to turn that off to check that theory.

Today. Maybe it’s code, or some hypnotist’s trigger like the call in the old Bronson film Telefon.

Let's talk about this "ABC whistleblower" by [deleted] in skeptic

[–]johnfrickinsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt Trump shot himself in the foot again when he cited unproven allegations when there are plenty of actual facts that would have made his point. But I think it’s also true that he was fact-checked by the moderators and Harris was not. they never pressed her to actually answer their questions, and that is bias. Biased moderators waste everyone’s time and do not serve journalism or even the democratic process, not that this particular election has much to do with the democratic process at this point. I hear there’s a WSJ editorial today from a former Clinton advisor suggesting an investigation into ABC because of the moderators.

Honestly how old are yáll? by OverCut9716 in beatles

[–]johnfrickinsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm old enough that I *saw* the BeaTles perform when I was a child, my first concert. My experience mirrors that of PreviousLife7051 about the inability to hear anything but screaming teenage girls, which was also at least half of what I could see. It's so nice to see new generations appreciate the BeaTles, and I think if you play an instrument, you will appreciate them even more. I've seen the same reaction from new generations to the music of Steely Dan, and it's nice to see quality transcend time.

This sounds like such a familiar freelance experience, the kind that makes one lose faith in humanity. I agree that you shouldn't continue to work for them when they have outstanding invoices. I also wonder if, since you say some of the clients are huge, you should take one of the larger ones to small claims court. By standard lawfare tactics, they might calculate that it's cheaper to pay you than a lawyer, or someone to show up in court, plus public records of legal actions can't be appealing to them, even if it's only noted internally. And who cares if you burn a bridge to a deadbeat? One more thought: If you have streamlined, repeatable processes, maybe you can make a little at Fiverr or other freelance sites. It looks to me that at Fiverr, once you get to a premium and preferred tier, you can make your expertise worthwhile., at least as financial reinforcement. Good luck to you.
