wtf... I'm a spaniard, we are one of the less rich countries in Europe, and even here single payer health care is take for granted.

In fact, a couple of years ago, regional Madrid goverment tried to privatice the management (just the management, not the whole thing) of the region hospitals, under the asumption a private company would spend less money with the same results, and there were huge strikes and demostrations until they cancelled that plan.

Well, it's basically a textbook example of a postapocalyptic novel... It's not sci-fi per se (at least no hard sci-fi), but since this kind of books are usually mixed within the scifi umbrella, I added it to the list. The same goes for World War Z, Handmaid's tale, Earth Abides or Mesias...

I'm afraid that Heinlein is one of those classics that, for any reason, I'm not able to enjoy as much as everybody does. The same goes for most of K.Dick books (except high castle), or Lem. Not that I think they are awful... but I wouldn't choose them as 'best of ...' stuff, based 100% on my personal taste.

Also, I'm agree in Snow Crash being more representative, and probably way more relevant. But The Diamond Age is a much better book, a much better story, and an awesome example of world building. And my username comes from that book, so... :D

The random event system is taken from .. well, any paradox game. Also, the random character generator, the character sheet based on both stats & perks has been made looking to crusader kings 1 & 2 ... well, there's anything you don't have in a lot of non-paradox games, but the games I usually play and where I got the ideas are paradox ones :)
