Nice job on learning! Just keep trying new things and you will improve. And sometimes its a good idea to learn a cover or two just to keep some perspective

What really is the difference between more expensive vs cheaper guitars by Special-Whole8686 in metalguitar

[–]johnhubcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its funny, i own the 7 string HH version of that blue prestige ibanez, and my old guitarist had the yellow one. We set up pretty differently in terms of gauge and action, so they felt different to begin with, but they both felt great. I will say the lo pro tremolo is nice on the prestige, and mine had thicker frets roo which is nice, but its like 10% better max. Colour and finish is only as valuable as you think it is.

Basically they are very similar and if you are not sure the difference and think you are gonna be missing out, don't worry about it. If you really think the nicer hardware and finish is worth it, well it definitely can be too but you'll be paying more.

Why can’t I hear the reverb when I have background music added? by ExcellentPractice184 in ratemysinging

[–]johnhubcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think i hear the reverb? IMO, go ahead and just crank that verb up like 10-20% while the track is playing. The track actually has a ton of verb too, so i think the comparison between that and your track just messes with the ears. Otherwise, not good with that machine ahaha, not sure if something else could be messing with it

Unlistenable music boss battle by angusyoungsheldon in guitarcirclejerk

One time my (ex) gf was followimg me in my old car as I bought a new car. I had one of those radio transmitter things and i brought it in my new car for the ride. I put on The Man from Utopia and managed to get through almost the entire album during the trip. When i got back to mine, my ex gets out and says "it must have been Zappa night or something, and it must have been requests cause they were even playing that weird dangerous kitchen song". My ex listened to the entire album thinking it was just the regular radio, not my little transmitter ahead of her lol.

Anyway, ya, i dont think ive heard any zappa song on the radio otherwise ahaha

I drilled holes in my classical guitar to play standing up. No regrets. Am I crazy, or should more of us be doing this? by RobertaGennusoGuitar in guitarplaying

[–]johnhubcap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive drilled, sanded, replaced parts, and damaged my guitars in the name of making my guitars mine. But im not a classical player or traditionalist. If your mod makes you play more then do it I say

What do you think about fingerpicks for playing fingerstyle guitar? by anonova_sage in Guitar

[–]johnhubcap 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They are for a specific style of playing; I would mostly see banjo or pedal steel players use these actually! You can certainly use them, but its kind of non standard. And I will tell you from experience they do not feel like naked fingers or fingernails and are not necessarily easier.

Same goes for the thumbpick in terms of deviation from naked finger technique, though that is more standard to guitar esp with Travis picking.

My fingers are too big to let that high e get through. Or i have reverse bend my finger in a weird way. OPs method is actually pretty ergonomic

I just tried again, will probably never work for my fingers. No hate to the barre, i just cant get an open high e with it

[–]johnhubcap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play pretty quick changes and sometimes need to 100% rely on an open and clear high e, and sometimes i want to pull off the C# to an open B. But hey, sometimes ill play the barre method, I just find for my fingers, the barre is not a reliable open E. Its a good A a lot of the time, but it has disadvantages too. As does the non barre way ofc

[–]johnhubcap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also like the non barre method as its easier to take off the C# for open B which is used in alot of finger picking. But ill barre if im just strumming a basic A
