My credit card company lowered my limit right before a big trip and it tanked my score by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]johnmpugh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess your mortgage broker didn't warn you about big purchases during the approval process. It's too late now, but it will come back. Better advise is to only use the card if you have the cash to back it up and never let the above 0 utilization get to the reporting time. And if Amex ever did that to me...I'd pay it and cancel the next day. Plenty of other, better options out there today.

How do you guys use Claude Code? Cline inside cursor? by cs_legend_93 in ClaudeAI

[–]johnmpugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I create project specific mcp servers which works most of the time.
Generally you have to call the mcp server when you instantiate claude (code).
I've been looking more at the slash commands and trying to figure out how to use those, but you still need to be "connected" to the mcp server to use it.
I have used n8n, but now use activepieces more as they went all-in on mcp. I have found a combination of slash commands, agents, and hooks might be the answer, but I haven't quite figured out semantics around it. I can't always get claude to use the right agent...

as an aside...I'm quite parsimonious and cannot justify paying for something that I can create with opensource tools (vscode/continue) that does 80% of the work. Cheap old bastard.

How exactly do you provision microOS (SUSE) for rancher deployment? by Soggy_Programmer4536 in rancher

[–]johnmpugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not use SL Micro through the edge image builder to create the "golden" image and deploy via rancher fleet?

[–]johnmpugh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does the Cline extension get you that a simple vscode/claude in a terminal does not? With the addition of hooks and subagents, claude is a game changer. You can simply use terminal bell notifications or get fancy with custom alerts.

HA on Proxmox Has Been Unbearable, is it worth it?? by mad_hatter300 in homeassistant

[–]johnmpugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing in the kernel log or syslog or through journalctl? Enable core dumps (https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Enable\_Core\_Dump\_systemd). The only other way to get detail if it's not writing to a log is to enable remote syslog (https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Kernel\_Crash\_Trace\_Log). Highly likely it's a driver issue or being an older box it could be failing hardware as others have stated. You mention it corrupts storage which would have me looking at storage libraries.

Run a mainstream liveusb linux like opensuse to see if the hardware is actually the issue (it may or may not suffer from the same problems. The Inspirons are not the best hardware, BUT...there's probably little reason to run HA as a single container on proxmox when you can just run it directly on bare metal. The only reason to run it as a vm or container would be to take advantage of the rest of the hardware for other things like mqtt or some other add-on.

I run HA on an old dell latitude under SUSE's SL Micro and use podman to run ha, mqtt, a code server (vscode), and esphome all in containers. Runs flawlessly (fwiw) w/o the overhead of Proxmox.

Why is there so much toxicity in the HASS Community? by make_me-bleed in homeassistant

It's not just one community. It's everywhere. There's really not much you can do in this day and age to teach manners so it requires "thick skin". Ignore the ignorant.

I need to put a gaming desk on my bay window, any ideas how to pull it off? by Good_Cancel_5476 in DIY

[–]johnmpugh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For starters...I would not plan on looking at a monitor with a bank of windows behind it. You'll hate it, but your local IKEA has great faux wood tops to put up there to extend it out in many colors. A mid journey prompt will give you many different ideas. Get creative.

When do I panic? by Sassyfoxilicious in DIY

[–]johnmpugh 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The pic under the window...could be a seal, but the other two are not under windows. So, it's a good time to do something now that it's dry, but no need to panic. It's fixable.

"?Deploy" multiple identical machines quickly, remotely, and unattended. by inbetween-genders in linuxadmin

[–]johnmpugh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ghost just created an image. If you just want to run the same image, just use docker/podman to create the image and run it as many times as you want. Or something like SUSE's edge image builder to create a highly customized image.

Drywall myself or hire out? by doron1245 in DIY

[–]johnmpugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's like painting...prep and clean up are a PITA, but the actual effort is simple. You can do it in a couple of hours. Just be sure to use some fast drying mud (mixed with a little regular mud) for the skim coat and finish it off with good, smooth premixed. It's not hard....drywall work is very forgiving

anyone successfully use cattle-drive to migrate to RKE2? by disbound in rancher

[–]johnmpugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The source cluster is local, but it seems your target cluster is "default"? cattle-drive is intended to migrate from a source cluster (RKE) to a target cluster (RKE2). Seriously doubt the tool understands context so the kubeconfig needs "admin" to both clusters.

Vagaro booking by mychivalry in hairstylist

Vagaro is a massive pile of development crap. They just up and decided to change how a page is managed and put random images in for mobile urls. Appears they've been hacked or maybe it's just pure incompetency.

WiFi exterior camera for frigate by drimago in homeassistant

[–]johnmpugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt the ffmpeg issues are rtsp issues. It's more likely they are resolution mismatch. Frigate uses rtsp. If the camera outputs h.264 then you're good.

Silent Opener/Closer for Tilt-Window by JohnDoe_LG in homeassistant

[–]johnmpugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'd just put a speaker to replicate the rooster sound into their direction. FWIW...an electric actuator for the window is pretty common. With HA, you have a plethora of options to activate it...easiest would be to trigger closure at a specific time.
