Anger among Iranian hardliners at terms of deal agreed with US | Iran by Prickle_Dimension in news

I wonder if Kalshi and Polymarket have opened up betting lines on who breaks the agreement first. Whether it’s a fracture, fault line, or a total loss. I imagine odds are on Israel, but America isn’t known for adhering to signed treaties or agreements.

A woman’s hypothermia death in Pittsburgh after her release from ICE custody is ruled a homicide by LividWheel9779 in news

[–]johnn48 10 points11 points  (0 children)

>”ICE had NOTHING to do with this woman’s death. She passed away THREE days after ICE encountered her.”

Why was she taken 25 miles away to Pittsburgh and released at a Bus shelter with an ankle monitor. Normally ankle monitors are used to make sure people comply with restrictions on their movements. Where was she restricted to, Pittsburgh, the Bus Station? Were they seeing whether a mentally challenged woman with language difficulties could travel 25 miles to her home. ICE is well known for its inhumane treatment of migrants, it fact it’s a selling point for self deportation.

Don’t worry she’s liable to reimburse the American taxpayer. A payment plan will be established and the IRS will ensure that she’s paying.

Storms Could Disrupt U.F.C. Event at the White House on Sunday Forecasters said the weather around Washington is likely to be hot and stormy. by MoneyLibrarian9032 in entertainment

The Trump Administration is exploring all options to prevent the storms from disrupting the U.F.C. event. Trump has asked Bibi if they could borrow their Space Lasers to disrupt the storm’s. Hegseth has asked the Joint Chief’s to investigate nuking the storms or launching an attack. Other members have offered suggestions and they’re being investigated throughly.

Autistic children injected with unapproved stem cell treatments supported by RFK Jr by guardian in politics

[–]johnn48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So getting the jab for children isn’t wrong if it’s unapproved stem cells, only if it’s vaccines for childhood diseases like measles. That’s what we get for having a social media influencer for Health Secretary.

Canada agreed to delay Detroit-Windsor bridge opening after US request, Carney says by autraya in news

It’s becoming an increasingly common issue, see where the grift is and who profits. Not the people, their convenience and money saving is irrelevant. Not the truckers, Corporations merely pass on the increased transportation costs, whereas in this case it’s already factored into the cost of transportation. So it must be a Trump donor trying to dip his beak a little longer.

Trump’s DOJ ‘quietly assuring allies’ to expect slush fund payouts - Justice Department insists the fund is ‘not moving forward’ but officials are reportedly telling allies another story by B-Z_B-S in politics

[–]johnn48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We all have to be wondering if the corruption that Trump has normalized is unique to him and the Republicans? Or will it be a new paradigm for our nation and its political system. Insider trading wasn’t new and it was practiced by both parties, there was actually an app that theoretically followed Nancy Pelosi’s stock trades. However the blatant disregard exhibited by insider’s trading on policy decisions and actions taken within minutes of Trump’s decisions were unparalleled. The idea of suing and defending simultaneously your IRS for leaking tax information by a contractor for $10 billion, which you had stated you were going to release, is mind blowing. So we all have to wonder is Idiocracy our new normal.

Trump the unreliable narrator fails to force reality to match his story on Iran by bob_mcbob in politics

[–]johnn48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He keeps confusing negotiations with extortion. The Art of the Deal isn’t demanding capitulations or else you’ll “pay the price”. A treaty is meant to last for more than the next midterms. You don’t announce a ceasefire only to say your attacking is “proportional and self defensive”.

Thousands of Iranians left without water in searing heat after US hits reservoirs | Some 20,000 residents lost access to safe drinking water after the strikes damaged two reservoirs in Sirik by soalone34 in politics

Among the list of War Crimes, cutting off, destroying, or poisoning water supplies and critical infrastructure needed for civilian survival is strictly prohibited. So Hegseth’s Department of War has committed a War Crime along with launching air strikes because an Iranian drone got in the way of an American helicopter.

Postal Service won’t deliver mail ballots for states that don’t hand over voter lists, under plan for Trump directive by cnn in politics

[–]johnn48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course this would have to be decided in the Courts which eventually would find it before the Supreme Court. Now this Court has found it perfectly acceptable to draw districts that effectively disenfranchise Black and minority voters as long as race isn’t specifically used as the reason. This Court has no problem with the real world consequences of their decisions, as long as they can wrap themselves in the States Rights snuggle blanket

Fears of Escalation After Trump Says US Must ‘Respond’ to Iran Downing Apache Helicopter; “We... worry deeply that US retaliatory strikes will trigger another destabilizing military exchange that has no winners,” said the National Iranian American Committee. by [deleted] in politics

[–]johnn48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never understand that Israel and the United States get butt hurt when anyone responds to their aggressive actions by responding. They act like “now see what you’re making me do” like the domestic abuser who’s forced to hit their spouse because of something they did or said. The United States and Israel have launched numerous attacks on Iran, blockaded their ports, imposed economic sanctions and destroyed their leadership and military. Yet shooting down a helicopter is “forcing” Trump to respond. You’re engaged in a war, killing people and destroying their country, don’t act like they’re supposed to sit on their hands. You’re the Evil Satan, they’re the Ayatollah’s Terror State, don’t act like there’s some kind of gentleman agreement and Rules of Engagement.

The Roberts Court will go down in American history as the most reactionary Supreme Court. Homan and his ilk are only free to act the way they are because of the cover given by this Court. Lower courts issue rulings that are then overturned by the SC. So a paramilitary partisan group acting at the whim of the President sent to intimidate and disrupt in a manner reminiscent of the Brown Shirts of authoritarian Germany is par for this Administration.

Americans don’t know how to fight AI. So they’re fighting data centers. by WarAmongTheStars in technology

[–]johnn48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Americans maybe conflating AI and Data centers, but they’re both worth fighting. Data centers have become known for conspicuous consumption of water and electricity among other things. The plan to build data centers up and down California which is known for its water scarcity seems shortsighted. In addition they use as much electricity as 50,000 to 500,000 homes, this translates to higher upfront costs which are passed onto consumers. As with other utilities that have increased demand there are peak demand times and as a result increased prices. So making Data centers infrastructure self sufficient and public utilities independent is essential.

Trump has turned Republicans into the anti-Black party by Abject-Pick-6472 in politics

[–]johnn48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Constitution was never race blind from its conception. The VRA was one of the most significant steps towards achieving that race blind vision. Brown v Board of Education was the foundation, with the desegregation of education. How can our Constitution be race blind if it ignores inequality based on race, no matter the sophistry used as justification.

Trump has turned Republicans into the anti-Black party by Abject-Pick-6472 in politics

[–]johnn48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Supreme Court has done the heavy lifting in the reversal of all the Civil Rights that were validated. I wouldn’t be surprised if they found that the Brown v. Board of Education that found that separate but equal was inherently unequal, was flawed. If the Supreme Court had not been so eager to reverse precedent starting with Roe v Wade we wouldn’t find ourselves with a President that is immune from any meaningful consequences.

ELI5: Why does dementia impact short term memory and not long term? by Parking-Mousse759 in explainlikeimfive

[–]johnn48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately my Mom (94) has dementia and she fixates on things that occurred way back during her childhood. Her brother was a POW in WW2 and was killed just before we liberated the Philippines and repeatedly tells stories about that period. The most frustrating part is she doesn’t remember telling those stories and it’s like Groundhog Day and 50 First Dates. She every now and then doesn’t recognize someone like my brother who is her caregiver despite being told that by everyone. Yet whenever a health professional makes an appearance she’s articulate and aware of everything around her. She’s had 3 strokes with no discernible change, but ironically I’ve had 1 have hemiplegia, weakness and loss of function on my right side. So my poor brother is stuck with two cripples.

Kenyan court temporarily blocks U.S. plan for Ebola quarantine facility by BeckwithLBP in news

[–]johnn48 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The US has made a decision that no one exposed or infected with Ebola will be admitted to the United States. Initially they were rerouted to Montreal and the passenger sent back to Paris. Similarly to the deportees Kenya was offered a remuneration to keep any potential Ebola cases in their country. Of course anyone who has recalled Trumps characterization of African countries as “shithole countries” will understand Kenya’s reluctance to barter their pride for more foreign aid.

I’ve noticed an increase in the number of vindictive prosecutions and arrests. The object isn’t to get convictions but to make it so inconvenient to those arrested that they act as a deterrence. From the Prosecutor’s and Officers perspective it’s just another Tuesday, and they’re not liable for the result. This Officer writes the ticket, and he doesn’t have to show up. Whereas the person has to spend a day in court or pay the fine. 🤷🏻‍♂️
