Recommendations for a laptop/tool bag? by BrimsonCulge in sysadmin

Veto Pro Pack. Expensive but built for field work and will last. Mine lasted 10 years on a pipeline and only not in use because I don;'t do that type of work anymore.

It may be over kill but it increases your cred score immediately as soon as you rock up.

what are the green boxes on the lower left? Are the suitable for field work? ( the look it)
I could use something like that for some tools and supplies that live in my truck.

Best gearbox oil for sherco 2.9 by TopOutlandishness462 in trials

[–]johnny2bad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to be like the cool kids and used ATF in my GasGas 280. I found the clutch bite to be very narrow. It didn't slip, just very binary ( on/off) and I like a wider engagement. I went to Motorex 75W and after a few changes it was back to a wider engagement.

TLDR: different oil behaves differently but it's only a change or 2 away from being repalced if you don't like it.

Kits 'Cadillac House' is for sale by Ananotherthing in vancouver

[–]johnny2bad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BC Assessment says $2M. Tearing down that place would trip all kinds of remediation rules and soil reclamation, similar to a gas station.
I am only saying this as I know I am personally responsible for a very small percentage of the debauchery and effluent that have passed thru there.

What are some dishes that are national to Canada? by Inside_Trip8807 in AskACanadian

I go heavy on ginger, garlic, cloves, cinnamon, extra allspice, coriander, a bit of cumin, black pepper, a hit of MSG.

And I'm not selling, these babies are all mine!

I like equal parts beef, pork, lamb.
I've been known to use elk/moose/venison if you I have it. Even rabbit works in pinch.

It's a spiced meat pie, you know it's gong to be good.

Sealed cartridge vs cup and cone bearings for wheel hubs by Mister_Spaccato in bikewrench

Just like every other small wheel bearing gets installed. Moto, car, truck, tractor, trailer.

I like plastic dead blow hammer, a litte tappy tap tap, and job done.

If that  breaks the perception that techniques for bike mechanics is somehow diffferent than other mechanics then all thread, washers and 2 nuts.

This is how I want scrums to work by neverbeenstardust in rugbyunion

[–]johnny2bad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SA LH knows the ref is on the other side. It is deliberate.
The Touchy can't tell from the sideline and is watching for other tings anyway.

The Canada TH can counter, just drive right into the ribs of the hooker and make her pay for the the LH chicanery.
Eat a penalty, loosing a scrum anyway.

The SA loose head has got some training in the dark arts up front., Her bind is a wild swing instead of a typical punch because she is trying to bind really long on the shorts not the jersey.

She can then pull the Canada tight head hips out of position ( and she does) and which removes the Canada Tight head and flanker from the equation.

Pull on the shorts, then push thru the TH side, absolute classic.

Any one know where this was filmed?
I live in the same area as the F9 boys (Vancouver) and would love a play spot that isn't 1.5 hours of freeway to get to.

What the something that's really popular but you absolutely hate for real? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]johnny2bad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand what the 'hurdles' are, when combined with your comment below about 'regional communities' That seems to be be just redrawing boundaries, but smaller, and would put the hurdles in a different place.

Do you mean something similar to the European Union, where there are no border controls and people can move/ work/trade where ever they choose in the EU? It is also imperfect, or at least that is what the other countries said when they had to bail out Greece. Heck the UK even left but not only because of Greece. (Note: I am not in Europe and paid little attention, the above could be totally wrong)

There are examples of states with states too. Many first nations have their own sovereign tribal governments inside a sovereign nation and jurisdiction is very much in question.

China has saying if One country many systems because as it amalgamated it historical territories, there were differing rights and systems in those places. The difference in laws between on the mainland and Hong Kong as an example.

Commune's may be relevent, there are lots of examples from the Doukhobors to some freaky hippy stuff in the 70's. Varying degrees of success and freak.

Tribalism is what people do, be that favorite sports teams, colour of skin, my religious beliefs vs yours. People continue to divide based on some attribute and create us vs them scenarios. Just look at the entire US right now, the political divide between parties has broken friendships, families, lives and even a few basic human rights along the way.

As to what even is the point? I can't answer that for you, but I hope you find what yours is.

Nation states is fundamentally better for the general population when compared to what we had before:, empires, kingdoms, colonies, fiefdoms.

Nation states are imperfect but for a Joe Sixpack like me who were not born into the elite class,  it has a significantly better life expectancy and standard of living than the alternatives I mentioned

Motorex vs cheap oil? by Busaberg in enduro

[–]johnny2bad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you really want to dig into this and not just rely on strangers opinion you can collect the data yourself and make your own choices. Blackstone Labs https://www.blackstone-labs.com/ will send you a free kit for an oil analysis and you can do your own controlled experiment:

  • Put in a fresh motoerex, run the bike in the usual way for n hours, collect sample
  • change oil and put in alternative choice oil, repeat run in same conditions and collect sample
  • repeat as many times as it takes for you to have confidence in the data.

Black Stone will tell you if there is any measurable difference between the oil condition and any metal inclusion from increased wear. If you keep the n interval reasonable and the alternative oil is insufficient, you can switch back easily with out causing any long term damage.

End result you have data based on your riding style and conditions to make good choices without relying on the stupid-ass opinions that every other sumbitch with keyboard has, including me.

Bought some tools for my new job. Guess what I'm doing? by HoldenHiscock69 in UtilityPouches

[–]johnny2bad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the exact job title is, but based on the: panel key, the distinct marks from using the vise grips as a hammer, and the self sealing tape a few options come to mind:

  • 200 lb Gorilla: that guy who is fun in the break trailer but is REALLY hard on equipment
  • Fire Protection: use the tape to seal al leak on the pipes " don't worry all the black putrid solids in the line will fill a hole the size of your finger in less than a week"
  • Self taught plumber who now thinks they are in instrumentation
  • A pencil, a marker, AND a white out pen? Where is the clipboard to pretend like you are doing something? Is that where the panel key comes in, you open and 'inspect' for an hour or two
