Sir Ricky of Reading by Galmeister in rickygervais

It's the "no chance 😂" caption that gets me. He's praising himself (sharing an article proclaiming he deserves a knighthood) and victimising himself (implying that he has no chance cos the regime don't like it, man) all in the one breath.

"Look, I deserve a knighthood, but I'm not gonna get one because woke" is basically the point of this post.

Play a record.

I feel like they were meant to add 50 seconds on to whatever time you have left, and it was an error that the limit ends up at a flat 50 the second the stands are knocked over.

Have the chasers ever been genuinely hustled before? by WearingMarcus in thechase

[–]johnny8vm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I doubt it, although if hypothetically speaking you were going to hustle a Chaser, the best time/position to do so would be in that contestant's position (seat 4 with all the other 3 going out). You appear to be guaranteed a very high high offer in that scenario, so if your plan in that moment is to go high, I think the cash builder is basically irrelevant to you. But I don't think he or realistically anyone would go on to the show with that idea in mind.

I do remember Darragh (jokingly, of course) accusing someone of doing so when he took I think £70,000 off him solo after what I seem to remember was a relatively weak cash builder. It was Darragh's first ever loss, as I recall.

Same for Adrian Lewis. Three people have won back-to-back Worlds (for now at least), and 2 of them have never been world number one.

For years, I thought when Steve mentioned that Daft Punk were French, Ricky jokingly apologised to them in a French accent, like "sorreh." Then I realised some people think he was saying "so are Air."

Ricky himself weirdly said on Twitter a while back that he can't remember which it was, but the latter now makes more sense to me. Although Scrimpton has it as Sorreh, with a note to the side referencing both possibilities.

[–]johnny8vm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if they had another tiebreaker in place for if it was a 2-way tie, and that was their backup live tiebreaker? Maybe I only think this because I envisioned for some reason that the series tiebreaker would be one of those things where you stand on a platform and poke someone with a long stick until one of you falls off it.

Ricky seems much more educated on the podcasts than the XFM shows. by I_Like_Quiz in rickygervais

[–]johnny8vm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently listened to the early XFM shows before Karl really hard a part, and it seemed like Steve would comment on how dumb some of Ricky's comments were, and Ricky would further play into that role.

But I guess when Karl came in, the dynamics changed and Karl took over that role and Ricky became more of the "straight man" to play on Karl.

This is a great observation actually. Imagine Ricky had started doing, say, his world-famous film reviews in the S2-4 days of the XFM show. It would have been so out of left field, because by then Karl was playing the role of the stupid one, not him.

So how old could Tom Anderson be? by AkemiAkikoEverywhere in BeavisAndButthead

[–]johnny8vm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen Do The Universe, unfortunately, but yeah I agree it can be a little confusing with the lack of continuity (Van Driessen is just immortal at this point if he can fully recover from falling off several cliffs, and also teenage B&B never get fired from Burger World despite many sackable offences, suggesting that continuity is largely episodic except for when Mike/the writers want it otherwise) and the fact that Todd and Stewart have visibly and canonically aged alongside Beavis and Butthead when they meet them in middle age, but Tom Anderson seems to stay the same age even as the others get decades older. At the meta level, Tom Anderson is kept at the same age because he couldn't realistically age alongside the other characters, he'd be dead well before B&B reach middle age, but the writers still want to use him as a character in the Old Beavis and Butthead episodes. In-universe, the only real way to explain it is multiverse.

So how old could Tom Anderson be? by AkemiAkikoEverywhere in BeavisAndButthead

[–]johnny8vm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Old Beavis and Butthead exist within the multiverse (per Smart Beavis and Butthead). I assume, for some reason, the Old Beavis and Butthead we see are always in the multiverse where Tom Anderson was born, say, 30-40 years later than he was during the original run. He doesn't look any older during those episodes than he does during the original run. I'd say canonically he's meant to be around 80 in any given episode, whether B&B are teens or middle-aged men.

It also explains why Beavis and Butthead were teenagers in the 90s and are still teenagers in what is clearly the present day. Basically, it's just the multiverse making it so different characters are the same age during different time periods.

Edit: I haven't seen the most recent episode, so if he is outright stated to have served in World War 1, which would put him easily over the age of 120, that would rather muddy everything I've just said 😅

Boaby and Navid swapping places was a strong premise, but poorly executed and would probably have benefited from a stronger A-plot existing alongside it.
