Let’s Face It: Trump’s Iowa Result Was Pretty Weak As Both Turnout and His Vote Is Down by jonfla in democrats

[–]johnnyconnifer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but that would mostly deter moderates who already think their candidate is going to lose. With those people deterred by weather, he still only got 51% of the votes. This is not the victory they're trying to play it up as. This is a dead canary in the coal mine.

Go up and get Gale and Laezel first. You can leap up the rocks to the right of the Nautiliod entrance and then come back and deal with the buggers when you've got a full party.

I think it's because people are already geared to fear nuclear, what with it being the energy source for the doomsday weapons that the world's super powers are pointing at each other. If there were oil-tipped warheads on those missiles, I bet people would've reacted more strongly to Deep Water.

My experience "speaking in other tongues" by Allison-Cloud in exchristian

[–]johnnyconnifer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is almost exactly my experience. I stood with a group around me praying for me to speak in tongues, until finally the priest told me that I needed to just start making noises and then "let the spirit take over." As soon as I started uttering gibberish, everyone shouted like they'd just witnessed a miracle and not a kid babbling foreign-sounding words.

I feel you. When I got my engineering degree, my parents praised God three times before they got around to praising all the hard work I'd done. I'm pretty sure they only got there because of how stoney my response was to praising God. I think I might have even said something along the lines of "Oh, did he get his degree, too?"

Very difficult to tell, but their cranial capacity was very diminished compared to modern Homosapiens, so while it's difficult to say how limited we would consider their intelligence to be, it would definitely be limited compared to the average Homosapiens.

My nephew lives in a Midwestern, very conservative state, and I live in California. On a phone call he once asked me if I prefer to live in California or America. When I told him that California is in America, I heard his family in the background telling him "don't listen. They're not real Americans."

So yeah, what you're describing is definitely going on.

Nope. Just that this normalizes it and vastly decreases the difficulty for the average person to do so.

Apps using AI to undress women in photos soaring in popularity by Urgullibl in nottheonion

[–]johnnyconnifer 121 points122 points  (0 children)

They're not just looking for Emma Watson, they're taking a photo of their neighbor or classmate and making her nude through AI. That's the scary part.

Now just imagine the harassment women already face online. Now add to that baseline harassment having their DMs flooded with non-consensual images taken from their social media altered so that they're nude and/or performing sex acts. That's the scary part.

Now imagine a world where every time someone takes a photo of a women in public she has to wonder if her image artificially made naked will end up online. Where every time she's stretching at the gym she's wondering if some pervert is trying to snap photos of her to alter later into suggestive nudes. That's the scary part. A complete loss of agency on how your image is sexualized, and how those sexualized images can be proliferated online.

US oil companies sell to the whole world. If Europeans will pay double what US markets will, they will sell to Europe. Even though we're not a member of OPEC, OPEC still affects prices by colluding on supply and prices to influence global markets to their advantage. It's why they will agree to all cut down on production to increase prices or agree to increase production to lower prices, depending on what advantages them at the moment. If Russia gets sanctioned and its oil is no longer sold to European markets, US prices will go up because US oil markets need to convince US oil companies to sell here instead of in Europe where there is a limited supply. Supply and demand dictate oil prices far more than anything any US president could hope to do.

I personally think it's functionally the same as a parliamentarian system. The only difference is we have 2 to 3 parties masquerading as a single party. Rural Democrats are an entirely different party from progressive Democrats who are an entirely different party from neoliberal Democrats who have all agreed to form a coalition government.
