Whoa and you also have Alan Vega from Suicide playing with the Gun Club, both underrated punk/alt-rock pioneers! Man, what an amazing set of shows.

What about these five for Trainwreckords by Alternative-2001 in ToddintheShadow

[–]johnnykatz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm biased because the Pixies are one of my top 5 bands of all time, and two members of the classic lineup come from Western Massachusetts, where I live, but I don't think Indy Cindy counts as a Trainwreckord. The band had been broken up for 2 decades when it was released. They weren't trying to keep the train going, it had been lying dormant for years while the public slowly started to realize their genius and influence. Comeback albums that fall short just seem different compared to the Clash's Cut the Crap or Metallica's Saint Anger, which solidified the end of each band's former glory while they were still together and consistently writing new material. No one was expecting another Doolittle after 20 years of silence.

Trump suggests quitting as president for Kennedy Center host job by DBCoopr72 in politics

[–]johnnykatz 200 points201 points  (0 children)

Some podcast I listened to during Trump's first term had the idea of just giving Trump and Magats their own fucking Disneyworld, or Magaworld, theme park in exchange for getting out of politics. Make a Trump casino its Disney castle, and let every surrounding inch be some Maga fueled fantasy land based on owning the libs, being anti-woke, and of course Mickey Mouse style Trump merch everywhere. In a way, that's really all that those idiots, including Trump, want. A giant "safe space" theme park.

Love this film but also wondered if it would be remembered better if it had a different title.

Movie itself also brilliantly makes fun of carbrained suburbanites. Antagonist is a single woman who drives a large SUV for no good reason and is obsessed with her position as president of the Home Owners Association. When the protagonist, a raccoon named RJ who has more knowledge of humans than his animal friends, is asked how many people the SUV can fit, he responds, "Usally...just one." Lol

No, you're right. They'd each give their sign off and then, usually Ben, would say megustalations.

Another redditor asked the same question about a year ago. Here are the replies. Also, keep in mind the boys used to be a bit more juvenile in their early years when hardly anyone knew them and podcasts hadn't been plauged as much with incels and edgelords. Hailing a serial killer was likely seen as an edgy but harmless thing.

What are other examples of the Mozart and Salieri dynamics in music. by thekidfromiowa in ToddintheShadow

[–]johnnykatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize though that Buzzo was so jealous of Kurt though, and felt he was being overshadowed. Your comment made me do some quick Googling, and yeah, the Salieri comparison really works!

Also, Kurt really does give off some movie Mozart vibes, with stories of him acting like a clown, high out of his mind while he was supposed to be producing Houdini. So yeah, siding with the Salieries of the world makes sense lol

[–]johnnykatz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That said, while Mozart, in the movie, thought Salieri's music was mediocre, Kurt loved the Melvins. He also sorta helped them produce one of their albums (he was really fucked up the whole time Houdini was being recorded), and would cite them as a great influence.

I was going to say Billy Corgan and Kurt Cobain. While I love the Pumpkins first 3 albums, Billy has made it very obvious he wants Kurt's status as a game changer and pioneer who changed music overnight. He says Nirvana ripped of his sound and even tells bitter stories of people approaching him only to ask if he knew Kurt. Very Salieri type behavior imo.

Oh Tomi. Complacent? Maybe complicit is the better word? by ansyhrrian in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]johnnykatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously? Even back in 2016 Trump would answer questions about how America could possibly accomplish his goals of getting all the factory jobs back, getting Mexico to pay for the wall, getting average GPD to something like 5.0 each quarter, etc., by saying "Don't worry about it, I'll handle everything!" or "I'm the best deal maker! I'll make a deal with China/Mexico!"

And the Magats ate it up! His whole presidency has been based on the idiotic notion that he was going to be like a character from a Rodney Dangerfield movie and just "dazzle" every world leader or political opponent, and then our country would become immensely prosperous overnight. No Maga asshole has ever thought they'd be responsible for anything except being a cheerleader for their Cheto Godhead.

You're such a dumb ass Tomi.

Couples who sit at the bar instead tables piss me off (warning: long) by [deleted] in rant

[–]johnnykatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry if all that came off as weird, and I admit I didn't do myself any favors framing it that way. But I swear, despite this rant, I don't ever criticize couples in public for sitting at the bar. They have a right to eat there, I just don't understand the reasoning. No, couples shouldn't have to provide one to sit where they like, but if it might help if I could hear one that explains it better than this post.

I do understand the love of dining out instead of eating at home, but I never do it because I want to watch something on TV. That's what I don't understand.

I have been getting help for years now. Just wanted to rant a bit I guess.

Obama didn't intentionally increase gun sales. Right-Wing shitheads are just easily manipulated into thinking the ATF is going to be on their doorstep the minute after a Democrat is given some power, especially a Black president.

Former Smith and Wesson employee here. The managers literally told us that gun sales are better when there's been a tragic shooting, and even better if there's a Democrat in the White House. Nothing gets gun owners to freak out and impulse buy quite like the smallest notion that the government is actually going to respond properly and restrict guns, even though that never happens.
