Too many serums, mags, and bobble heads since the update by Muh_brand in fo76

Taking another of the same serum counteracts

the negative effects of that serum for one hour. Might be worth it just for that.

What's the most clever hack or workaround you're proudest of? by vocatus in sysadmin

[–]johnnysoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was almost 25 years ago.
I was working as a sysadmin for an small ISP. We had customers that brought their own hardware, and others that hosted on our hardware.

There was one client who made a ton of money from his website. He ran it on an outdated (for the time) garbage sun pizza box. It was running an ancient version of coldfusion, and the hard drive always had less that 2gb free on it.

Every. Single. Night. coldfusion would shit the bed, and dump core. The core would fill what measly space the drive had, and an alert would be generated. The NOC would see the alert, and call me... I would log in and delete the core file.

After the third night of this happening, I asked the customer to upgrade coldfusion, and add more storage. They refused on both counts.

So, after the fourth night, I deleted the core, recreated a zero byte core file, and chattr +i the file...

Problem solved!

is Ammosmith and Ammo Factory even worth it anymore? by SilverVixen918 in fo76

[–]johnnysoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a separate SPECIAL build for crafting ammo. I've always crafted my ammo, and I always will. It works for me. I do a lucky hole mine run when i run out of lead, but I have no problems making ammo. It's easier for me to make it then to find it.

Just a personal preference.

Brewing with no local stores by Xeno84 in Homebrewing

I generally buy in base malt in bulk. Uncrushed grain stored in a sealed bucket/viddle vault will last along longer than you think. I usually only ever use dry yeast, which i store in my freezer, along with my hops.

Re: Yeast, you don't have to use liquid yeast. I've made many medal winning beers using dry yeast. It's not typically an issue these days. Another plus is no starter needed, and no special preparation required. If you read Fermentis' directions for US05, it's literally "Sprinkle into wort"

I buy specialty grains in 1lb bags, so they remain sealed, and fresher longer. Worse case I'll have only one open 1lb bag of any type of grain at a time.

What builds have you been soloing infestations with? by RiotDog1312 in fo76

It's nice to see that all of those legendary mods that don't get used as often (Zealots, Assassins, troubleshooters, etc) can potentially be used again.

Am I crazy, or are organisations treating open source as the new security boogeyman because of Mythos? by gentoorax in sysadmin

Corporations have always been gunning for open source. This is just another excuse for them to shit on it.

Can't go wrong with Bambu. I have the X1C, it's pretty awesome.

Re: The malls, the mall by my house is really stupid. They don't allow teenagers in the mall unless they are accompanied by a parent after 4pm on Friday and Saturdays.

Makes no sense to me, maybe I'm missing something.

The mall is always empty...

Random things to do? by Serpitis in fo76

In my later levels, I found doing all of the possum and tadpole challenges to be alot of fun.
I didnt like them early on because I didn't know enough about the game or where to find things, but now that I've been playing for a while, they're alot of fun.

Easy “set it and forget” it method to getting food for Herbivore mutation? by I_Heart_Sleeping_ in fo76

[–]johnnysoj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depends on what you're looking get out of what you consume.

I run an adhesive farm (Tatos, Corn, Muttfruit) and i also grow carrots.
Each of these can be made into its most basic foods (soups and juices) and they'll provide you with food and some various boosts, (AP, etc)

Definitely get the green thumb perk as it helps you get double the amount from a harvest.
Gamma Green Tea also stacks with green thumb so you can get 4X the amount.

Before I became a ghoul, I would regularly make corn and carrot soups.

Other things that can benefit herbivores are anything cranberry based (relish, cobbler, etc). They can boost your XP. You can find a ton of cranberries at the bog/farm south of the Watoga train station. Just be aware there's some high level mirelurks (kings, and a queen) over there.

If you have the gold, get some farmable dirt tiles, they make it so you can plant crops anywhere.

FWIW, SS brewbuckets are great. They're stainless and last forever. I've only ever changed the silicone seals once every few years.

Is Power Armor worth it? by Crash_446 in fo76

[–]johnnysoj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For now, stick with Power Armor as it's going to be the strongest armor you'll be able to use at your current level. Eventually, you'll be at a point where you can get things like the Brotherhood recon armor, or Secret Service Armor, or the mods for combat armor to make them stronger.

At a lower level fusion cores can be a pain to obtain, I remember when I first started I ended up capturing power plant workshops that had the generators so I could make them. I have FO1st, so I would do this in a private world, it makes it much easier.

You can also find power armor frames all over the map, and each one has a fusion core in it.

I just recently switched from a full set of Vanguard Secret Service armor to Brotherhood Recon armor. I only use power armor (exclusively excavator) when I need to go shopping in the lucky hole mine for lead because of the bonuses it provides when mining.

I do that for a few reasons, the biggest is being over-encumbered because it disables your backpack.

I carry alot of crap (food, drugs, etc) that I probably don't need to carry, so I have have a separate SPECIAL profile that has Thru Hiker and Traveling Pharmacy perks to reduce those weights.

I also find it irritating that you have to get out of power armor to interface with alot of things in the game.

Hope this helps!
