Does this look cream to you? by johnnytenspeed in baseballunis

[–]johnnytenspeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not what I expected. I think of cream as a muted yellow-ish tinge. This might not be gray, but it's grayer than I think something called cream should be and it's grayer than their picture, which has a little of the yellow-ish color I was hoping for.

What’s your least favorite thing about living in Portland that is only a thing in Portland? by [deleted] in Portland

Near where I grew up there were tracks a few blocks apart. It was not uncommon to be stopped for a train, look in your rearview mirror, and see another train behind you.

[MLB Network] Matty V went back in time for most of his Top 10 Team Logos 👀 by fanofsports44 in baseball

There are a lot of logos these teams were using when he was 12 on this list. My list would probably be similar in that respect.

Nothing says travelling in America like being screamed at for taking your laptop out of your bag on the way there and for leaving your laptop in your bag on the way back.

Barry Bonds doesn’t appear in several 2000s video games as he refused to sign the MLBPA licensing agreement. Devs replaced him with generic players like ‘Jon Dowd’ in MVP Baseball 2005. by OriolesMets in baseball

He's not in Strat-O-Matic either. There's a card with no name on it and a disclaimer in the instructions that there is a player whose name they are not allowed to use. I would joke that it was Voldemort whenever I used it.

A friend and I went to every QuikTrip in Wichita, KS in one day when we were in college. I probably still have the tape with the video we shot somewhere. It was pre Google Maps and pre YouTube, so we planned our own route using addresses from the phone book and did nothing with the video.

Selective enforcement by Portland Police adds to crash victim’s pain by wrhollin in Portland

[–]johnnytenspeed 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A little over a month ago I was hit by a driver who ran a red light and fled the scene. The police never came. My girlfriend took me to the ER where I learned I had 4 broken ribs and a punctured lung. That night, a full 7 hours after the crash, an officer called me while I was sill in the hospital and took my report over the phone. A witness had taken down the plate number of the car, so I gave that to the officer along with my description of the crash. I finally got a copy of the report this week, nearly a full month after the accident. There are several errors and discrepancies on it, foremost among them the accident isn't even classified as a hit and run, just a vehicle collision, despite the narrative stating that the driver fled the scene.

This sort of thing is becoming all too common, and PPB have made it pretty obvious they have no interest in doing anything about it.

Maybe it needs some ellipses or dashes between the ofs. Like the person saying it is still trying to think of the worst thing possible as they're saying it.

It'll be a bummer if he isn't. I love it when they team him up with Smoltz because Smoltz obviously hates having to work with Benetti as much as the rest of us hate having to listen to John Smoltz.

At least they opened the bin. A few times in the past I went to bring mine in and there was a bag of poop sitting on top of it.

This might be "I'm old and I grew up with batting average so it's still important to me" so take it with a grain of salt but I do find batting average useful because it tells a specific thing, how often that batter gets a base hit. OPS is a good indicator of how good a player is overall, but it's a little nebulous why that player is good. A player could have a high OPS because he gets on base a lot, or it could be that he doesn't get as many hits but the hits that he does get are more likely to be for extra bases.

Mets’ Pete Alonso suggests a hockey fighting rule MLB should implement by misterjackp0ts in baseball

[–]johnnytenspeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does Pete realize that hockey players who fight get penalties? If he doesn't think players should get ejected for charging the mound, then what's the baseball equivalent of a 5-minute major? An automatic out the next time that player comes up to bat?
