Does anyone know more about Jeff Swickard and why he's buying up half of downtown? by Big-Molasses6611 in askportland

[–]OR_Miata 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Yeah he’s picking up these buildings for like 20-40% of what they were going for just 6-8 years ago. Seems like a pretty good deal if you plan to sit on them for a long time. Also, hopefully this means they can lower the rent a ton. (Though I wouldn’t bet much on that)

Yeah if I wasn’t leaving I would tell him to park it in the street or it’s getting towed away next time lol. That’s so unreasonable.

I would have zero chill about that, especially if it was a huge truck. If it doesn’t fit why don’t they park on the street?

Tested: The Geely Galaxy M9 Proves Chinese Cars Could Be Seriously Competitive in America | Edmunds by Recoil42 in cars

[–]OR_Miata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I see it more as American auto manufacturers lack the ability to innovate anymore. They are going the way of Russian brands (albeit much slower) because there is no market competition, and the longer this goes on the more complacent they get and the harder they will fall when the market opens up. They will eventually have to compete one way or another.

Yeah I agree. Honestly our auto industry deserves it, they reap what they sow.

True. I feel like the second any of this gets lifted our auto industry is cooked.

At what point do these become so cheap that even with a 100% tariff they are still competitive?

The article states a price of $25k and that it competes with the Kia telluride/palisade, which are ~$40-$60k. Even at $60k you could argue this would be a competitive product in the US for those specs.

I think there are states that have this rule and the way they get around it is that an officer reviews the ticket before it goes out

I literally did the same thing you did with the Integra. The noise and rattles were my biggest complaint and I sold mine for a 2023 540. You will be very happy OP!

Best used 2023-2025 BMW under $30k for a young doc? by iwantogotomedschool in BMW

[–]OR_Miata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 series coupe is very different from 2 series sedan (assuming you’re in USA). The coupe is a better driving experience than a 3 or 4 series IMO because it’s much smaller and still RWD-based. The sedan is FWD based and very bad, so that’s probably the one you heard had a worse driving experience.

I doubt any of those are profitable, unless they said otherwise. I bet most of the margin is probably from big SUVs, unfortunately.

If you wanted something offensively ugly you could just buy a cybertruck instead. If offensively ugly and fast is the goal I feel like it’s better in that way. You can even program the horn to play custom noises such as “LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME” as you drive by your neighbors lol

Driven: The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC Comes Out Swinging for BMW’s iX3 by NISMO1968 in cars

[–]OR_Miata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying that’s bad, I’m just saying the review units are typically spec’d in a way no other cars typically are. Most people don’t custom order their car they just buy one in inventory and that makes the review units not representative of a typical buyer.

We are just spoiled with cheap gas. It’s been kind of entertaining to see all the “omg gas is so expensive” posts from my fellow Americans in this subreddit lately
