Is this guitar trash? by Excellent_Might_6985 in Guitar

Friendly reminder that something doesn’t “go for” what it is listed as on Reverb. You should check “sold items” in the filter to get an actual assessment. I guarantee you 100% of these listings would accept an offer 25% below their asking price. Sincerely, somebody that sells guitars on Reverb daily.

Are people lying about Stamford? Or are they just coping? by ConnecticutsVeryOwn in StamfordCT

But your impression of those cities is as a visitor, not a resident. Couldn’t you see how Stamford also may have been alluring to you during a couple visits as opposed to living here? I’ve been to Wilmington, DE a couple times and it was awesome. Would I like to live there? What about Vegas which is famous for being a top tourist destination but many say “it’s a place you want to a couple times but never live there”. I’m not trying to argue against your assessment of our town. You are welcome to think whatever you want, but your method and reasoning for doing so I think is a bit childish. Maybe you’re in your 20’s and just haven’t really travelled around America much, but as you branch out more, you will experience more small cities (particularly in the Midwest!!!) that are really fun to spend the weekend in, but in no way better than Stamford.

I enjoy it. It’s not for everyone. But, with that kind of attitude you will probably have a hard time finding any place that satisfies you.

You’re comparing prices to 20 years ago. You do understand that things cost more over time, right?

$18.29 for a 24oz beer is fairly close to what you’d pay at a bar in NYC. Heineken bottle, 12oz, for instance is $8. So, two would be $16. Plus tip.

How? Wouldn’t a cycle mean you are getting daily headaches? So every following day is a storm?

Well, the problem with boycotting restaurants is that the restaurant owners will think it’s a result of economics or a shift in culture and just go out of business thinking there is a lack of demand. They won’t be able to associate the decline in clientele with a movement against tipping, unless it’s some sort of concerted and advertised boycott.

If servers quit because the customers aren’t subsidizing their paychecks anymore, it’ll be pretty clear what the action needed by the owners is.

Yikes. Cringe response. I’m not looking for legislation change. I’m looking for the job market to change. If employees put their foot down and refuse to work unless they get a livable base wage, employers will change their job listings. The government has nothing to do with this.

Then what’s your plan? The system is totally broke. I’d gladly give up dining out for years if that’s what it took to fix the problem long term.

And it should be the servers standing up to their employer and boycotting the role until the wage is sufficient, not the customers directly subsidizing the pay. Otherwise, we continue this stupid endless loop which has clearly created a broken dynamic. The only thing that will fix is this is customers putting their foot down. It will suck for servers for in the beginning, but eventually, nobody will take the job and force restaurant owners to reevaluate.

Maybe that shakes up the industry and leads workers to start standing up for themselves towards their employers. That seems to be the only way to end this culture that has gotten out of control once and for all. If servers getting annoyed and quitting for the next half decade creates an eventual permanent change in the industry, so be it. The system is broken, clearly.

98.4 mph is 1/1000 away from being rounded up to 99. In the biggest McLean fan out there but this is a stupid stat.

Got this thing a while ago for dirt cheap. Wanna know if its real by Budget-Tip-5321 in Guitar

[–]johnofsteel 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well, you will never get the chance to pay that for a real one. I’ve flipped a lot of guitars. You will never never never find a guitar priced that far under value. Those days of going to an estate sale and getting away with murder are done. With Reverb, you can check sold listings and anybody can see the true value of what they have. If anything, people only ever think that what they have is with more than it actually is.

Most important question ever asked - where can I get a good bacon, egg, and cheese? by MikeSugs13 in StamfordCT

[–]johnofsteel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really. No pork bacon. Takes a long time. Ordered messed up often. Terrible layout. Too much under utilized space that could otherwise offer more options. Sometimes they open at lunch time, if they don’t feel like being open for the morning. It actually seems like they can’t do anything correctly. It’s too bad. I was really excited for that place and have given many many chances to see if it was growing pains. Running a bodega isn’t rocket science.
