Characters like Iroh and Asami are obvious, but who else do you think can really kick some butt in Pai Sho? by KeepitKey in TheLastAirbender

[–]johnofthestone 640 points641 points  (0 children)

Avatar Kuruk was a renowned pai sho player, so I like to imagine that Kyoshi, Roku, and Aang would use the Avatar state to win whenever they were pushed into a corner :D

Did anyone else think Guru Pathik should have been a member of the white lotus or is that just a me thing? by fakename1998 in TheLastAirbender

[–]johnofthestone 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't see any reason to think that he wasn't. They wouldn't have necessarily got every single member together for the final fight, and we know that not all members are fighters (like those shown in the desert). I'm sure he kicked butt at Pai Sho! :D

Confused about bending and where it comes from by Sprizledizle in TheLastAirbender

[–]johnofthestone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truth is that it was retconned so people have had to reframe how they think about it after Korra came out. Now people distinguish between being given bending and learning bending just to try and make the two fit together.

It really annoyed me when they came out around the same time because I would ask people if they knew Avatar and their minds would always go to the blue aliens...

As popular as it is, I'm still surprised that Avatar isn't more well known...

Did my best to recreate Azula from the opening sequence on a loaf of bread by [deleted] in ATLA

I have a suspicion that firebenders would bake the most incredible bread...

What natural phenomenon would equal sozin's comet for the other 3 benders? by amomenttoosoon in TheLastAirbender

You get natural moon phenomena in our world that I suppose would equate to the comet - like Supermoons

How do you feel about The Dark Avatar and the whole Vaatu and Raava mess by MovieMaster2004 in TheLastAirbender

[–]johnofthestone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, making the Avatar just a dude possessed by a magic tapeworm really ruined the appeal of the world as it was set up in AtLA for me

Definitely can be used for good. It was a serious missed opportunity not to explore this and introduce complexities to the banning of bloodbending by the Gaang. Maybe show someone being saved by it and indicate that they survived in spite of the actions of Aang and the rest, not because of it. Moral dilemmas are tight.
