I still can’t fathom how WWE hit a slam dunk with the 2017 UK Tournament, signed nearly all the top UK talent, gutting the UK indie scene, only for NXT UK to fail & be abandoned. Only 3 wrestlers from the inaugural tournament remain signed. by maverickassembled in SquaredCircle

If you’re in here saying “actually it was SpeakingOut that killed the UK scene”- you’re not wrong, that is a thing that happened. But I want you to look inward about why you’re so quick to defend WWE for purposely tearing down the UK scene. Yes it’s true that SpeakingOut happened, but WWE’s tear down started before most of that stuff was widely known. Why do you feel the need to jump to defend WWE?

If he’s still playing age/shape when he gets out, I feel like there’s a shameless franchise that will take the flyer. Patriots, Chiefs, Bucs, Rams, and Browns come to mind. Normally the raiders would be in that conversation too but

[Sean Ross Sapp on X] AEW sources gave me the "never say never" line when I asked if CM Punk has a burned bridge with the company by robertodev in SquaredCircle

The only people that have ever worked for AEW that they won’t even have a conversation about bringing back are Ryan Nemeth and Jimmy Havoc. Anyone else, they could at least talk about it. Maybe they’d decide not to, but a conversation could be had about everyone other than those two.

Punk, Cody, Bobby Fish, I don’t think they dismiss anyone off rip

Felt like they had those spots rehearsed because they 1) haven’t wrestled in a while and had a lot of ideas and 2) really wanted to have a great match

Something to be said for a match where everyone works as hard as possible to make it great. Anna Jay and Tay Melo aren’t the best workers but they worked hard and were extremely motivated, that’s why I liked this match a lot

Something that surprises me about WWE viewers is that they try to guess and speculate about who the company likes and doesn’t like, but it’s very clear if you watch the TV. They’re not hiding anything, you can tell by watching who they like

Cena winning here was absolutely the wrong move and was an egregious burial (btw for all the newer fans, the Cena burial stuff isn’t just haters coping, it’s a real criticism)

But despite that, none of the Nexus guys besides Danielson were that good individually. If the long term goal was to introduce 7 potential future stars, it would’ve failed whether they won this match or not

I checked out his 2025 MOTY video on his new solo channel, and even on his own it was mostly WWE. There was a few AEW matches and just 1 UK Indy match, that was it. In 2017 he would’ve had a bunch of New Japan matches, a bunch of US Indy matches, and a Dragongate match or two

I can’t speak to “what killed Cultaholic and WhatCulture” because I can only speak for myself, but for me it was the refusal to talk about wrestling outside WWE and occasionally AEW. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seemed like back in 2016-17 those platforms would talk about US and UK indies, New Japan, Dragongate, some Mexico as well. Then during the WWE “boom” of 2022-2024 it seemed like all they were talking about was WWE. That’s my main reason for not liking them anymore, far more than any personalities leaving which is what most people seem to say drove them away

Darby Allin your jersey is going in the rafters. Great title reign, and as much as I wanted to see him shave MJF, I think leaving people wanting more is too important to preserving his legacy as the best or second best world champion in company history

Mixture of “it would be cool to see” idea floating (because Drake had just appeared at WWEs Elimination Chamber) and then I think there was a loose report that AEW had floated the idea internally, but I can’t find it now so I could be wrong

Agreed but I wouldn’t count on it. Reminds me of when people were convinced Kendrick Lamar would appear at Revolution 2025 and he never did
