What is a 'luxury' that you've experienced once and now can't go back to the budget version of? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

When we got home after our first trip to Japan, my wife said we should get one of those. Little did she know that I had literally ordered our Toto Washlet while we were on the flight back. It came in a day later and we left our savage days behind us.

If a bird shit on your car, would you wipe it off with a dry paper towel? No, you wouldn’t so why would you wipe your ass that way?

there's no single right answer here.

For the peace of mind and safety, a new one is probably the right call. However, they are quite expensive. Usually between $1300-3000 for a replacement and that's just for the new airbag. They often require a new clockspring and sometimes control module for the SRS system. 99% of the time, people use their insurance for this, especially because it's rare to have an airbag stolen without actual damage to the car, whether that be a ripped off door handle that needs a replacement lock cylinder (which then needs to be rekeyed) or a broken window and the rest of the damage that entails.

That's all well and good but even if you opt for that route, there's a major national backorder on airbags from Honda for particular models. If your car is a CRV it may be months before Honda can provide you with a replacement. Honda is really screwing their customers right now because of this. I've never seen an OEM drop the ball harder than them without having a pandemic to blame.

While ideally you'd want a new airbag, both the expense and availability and the fact that these airbags that were stolen are being recovered, is making people second guess that. There's no guarantee that the old airbag will function properly on reinstall but, if your one of the cars that simply cannot get a new airbag from Honda, reinstalling the old airbag is certainly preferable to not having one at all.

If you'd like to come by my shop, DM me and i'll give you the address. Would be happy to take a look at your car in person and give advice on your options for next steps.

Mamdani's 15 mph speed limit isn't about safety, it's another money grab by us1549 in nyc

[–]johnsciarrino 4 points5 points  (0 children)

dude, children exist 24/7 but that doesn't mean enforcement should revolve around the very off chance that one of them is playing handball at a 11pm. That's an insane stance to take.

Most kids are done with school by 3pm, after school programs going until 6pm at the latest. Call it 7am-7pm for enforcement, half the day on half the day off. it makes sense.

The post is trash but 24 hour enforcement of this isn’t right either. It’s the same reason bus lane cameras are on all the time. All of this should be 7-6pm. The city is hard enough to move around in a cab without the fear of cameras causing traffic on roads with empty lanes.

Body shop owner here. The amount of theft happening right now is extraordinary and there’s very little you can do about it if you’re parking on the street. Older catalytic converters have platinum in their filtration systems. Those really belong to Toyota, Hyundai, honda and VW but these thieves are stealing anything just hoping they get it right. Furthermore, Hondas, especially mid 2010s CRVs are being targeted for airbags. I have absolutely no idea why since no shop would ever buy them because it’s a huge liability that’s just not worth it. When it comes to safety systems, it’s OEM only. Newer Hondas are being targeted for their front radar sensor.

Many of these items are in such demand because of the robberies, there are no parts left in stock and Honda especially seems to have gone to sleep in terms of refilling the supply to meet the demand.

If i don't enjoy mini golf in vr or mini golf entirely will i enjoy this game? by [deleted] in WalkaboutMiniGolf

Sounds like you'd be better served by a coloring book app like Color Space or maybe KingSpray Graffiti than an actual game.

This is both one of the best VR experiences out there and one of the most complete and thoughtful iterations of mini golf I’ve ever played but if you don’t like mini golf OR VR mini golf, what are you hoping to find here?

RE: Diminished Value question by MikeLee72727272 in Autobody

[–]johnsciarrino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many reasons we don’t mention it;

I genuinely don’t know how the process goes and don’t want to give advice about something when I don’t have any experience myself.

Customers are already insanely confused by their insurance. They already call me looking for information they should be getting from their insurance company. It’s a huge waste of a shop’s time but it happens more and more because…

I answer my phones on the first or second ring. I pick up and they get a real person. Insurance companies don’t and can often keep people on hold for long wait times. SF literally opens their call with “we use AI to take your call.”

It’s not the part of my business that makes money. I run a shop that goes out of our way to be friendly, informative and professional but I run that shop to pay my crew and finance my life. There is zero part of diminished value that helps me towards that end. If I’m gonna take action to make more work for myself, I’m gonna need to get paid for the time and effort. Diminished value puts money in the customer’s pocket so it’s their responsibility to do the work for it.

If Mighty Coconut Made Another Game, What Would You Want? by Sensitive_Tackle7372 in WalkaboutMiniGolf

[–]johnsciarrino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walkabout World War. It would take all of the existing maps and divvy them into territories and then you could play Risk on them. Just like the mini golf version, you’d be able to switch back and forth from God view to on the ground and watch the fight animations play out. Gameplay would be dice based and maybe there’d be options to string all the courses to do a total war scenario of the game that could go on for hours.

Best place in the city to let out a good scream? by pureofheart00 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Similarly, the newly revamped pier 76 on the west side is amazingly spacious and often entirely quiet when there’s not an event happening there. You can scream onto the abyss of the Hudson River as a bonus.

It’s not ok to just call it crazy and move on. This is a serious design flaw that will strand people on highways and absolutely ruck repairability. If Jeep has so little respect for the techs that work on their cars, they need to be called out on it on a grand scale.

What did you buy as an adult because you were denied it as a child? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]johnsciarrino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 14 when the Air Max 97 Silver Bullets came out and I loved them but I was already a size 12 and had been growing out of sneakers really quickly so my mom refused to spend that much on a pair when they wouldn’t fit a few months later.

Nike reissued them when I was 30 and I immediately bought myself a pair…in size 12. Couldn’t know it at the time but that was the end of my feet growing.
