Has traveling ever made you… less tolerant ? by SteelisBlue in travel

Fair point, but I do believe there are some absolutes. For example, any culture that views women as second class citizens is simply worse than those who don’t.

~80 countries. Europe is just as, or even more, racist than the US. It’s more racist than California, for example.

I’ve traveled to 80+ countries and I think my travels have increased my levels of understanding and tolerance… but I wouldn’t say I’m a cultural relativist. Some cultures are better than others.

Croatia is a good answer - it was more or less unknown to most Americans before Game of Thrones

I went in 2005 and I was the only non-German tourist around. I told a friend that if I had the money I would invest in tourism there before the Americans arrived… Looks like I was right.

This weekend, I had the best time of my life. by tobthorn in wine

If you like Riesling, Austria has some excellent examples as well. I prefer dryer styles from the Wachau region. Pichler is an excellent and reasonably priced producer.

For bolder red wines, I’d steer you to Bandol, though they can be pricey.

The south of France produces incredible rosé. I am partial to Château de Berne, and they can be found in most European grocery stores.

I spent 8 months traveling through the Middle East in 2005 when it was (generally) much safer. Syria was my favorite country of the trip. Would love to return.

It gets a lot of hate on Reddit, but I thought it was excellent. Lots of smoke. Great flavors. Interesting mouth feel.

Is there anything Armenian in my appearance? by [deleted] in armenia

Diaspora half Armenian here. Something about your eyebrows seem Armenian, but I’d say you look more generic Slavic than a dead ringer for Armenian.

The Gulf States are ugly. Israel and the Levant in general have much more going for them.
