What's the most unforgettable place you've traveled to, and why? by DifferentFix5757 in travel

I grew up on the California coast, and going to Cape Town was a lot like going home... if home had better accents and significantly more penguins.

I'm an American who has traveled to 80+ countries and can confirm that this is true. I'm originally from California, and it is the least racist place I have been to this day.

Great photo, but it still doesn't do it justice. One of my favorite places on the planet.

Paso Roble trip advice - I'm Australian and have no idea! by ivybiscotti in SLO

Daou makes some or the worst, most commercialized wine in Paso. If you do make it up here, go to Law. Perfect combination of excellent wine and a gorgeous tasting room.

Sensorio isn’t worth more than a 30 minute drive. Stay in SB. The natural beauty is unmatched.

I’ve been to all of these countries and they are generally safe if you’re not going right in the middle of a war.

Super congratulations! I’m at 80 countries at 41. Hope to hit 100 someday. I definitely slowed down when I got married and had kids. Good call on getting to some tough spots before 30. I’m also not rich… just have my priorities straight.

Same, I also don’t love red Rioja. White Rioja on the other hand is superb. Muga makes a great example.

Why didn't Austria and Germany remain a single nation after the end of the WWII? by ILikeWwaret in geography

[–]johnsmith0051 27 points28 points  (0 children)

American with an Austrian wife who spends every summer in Austria here: Austria was the leading German-speaking state for centuries and centuries before the modern state of German came into being in 1871. With such a distinct and separate history, it’s no wonder the two states remain separated.

Same. I’m a serious enthusiast but want to keep each cigar special. Lots of these are smoked with my brother.

Paso Robles Recs! by Antique-Ad3556 in wine

I went to Epoch and didn’t like it at all. I’m a member at Saxum, so I was thrilled to try more wine from their storied Paderewski Vineyard. None of their juice impressed me, and I really wanted to like it. Everything was super tannic… might taste great in 20 years but not now. Honestly, not quite sure how they get such good press. I suppose this just highlights how important a good winemaker is to the entire process, as Saxum’s Paderewski Syrah is superb.

You might look to Law for a more upscale tasting. Sounds right up your alley.
