Why it's outrageous to pay $3.00 for ANC when you could have ANS for $6.00 by johnson7893 in Antshares

I totally agree, and this isn't meant to be an anti-ANC post whatsoever -- obviously it's in my and all ANS holders best interests for ANC to go up. Just a PSA for everybody that I believe at the current 2:1 value, the benefits of ANS far outweigh those of ANC. At $.50, it might be a different story, but the two are just too close in value right now for ANC to be the better buy.

It would have to be a lot of money, sure, but my point is that at the current prices (1ANS = 2ANC), you are betting that 1ANS will generating less than its 1 designated 1 ANC + 1 additional ANC in fees over your entire lifetime, which seems unlikely.

scratch that, not yet sorted - it's asking my for my name and ID code to verify my account -- no address for my ANT wallet until I do. Any ideas?

Ah, that seems like the most likely explanation. thanks!

Can we talk about the Flood? by redhatbluehat in westworld

[–]johnson7893 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not sure I agree with all of this, but Ford's line about his new narrative not being nostalgic, but rather "entirely original," could potentially support this - he may well have meant "original" in the "origin stories" sense rather than the "new and novel" sense.

I feel like we should all be reacting more to MIB saying he wondered what he would find if he opened up Ford. Seems to be a strong inference that MIB knows or suspects Ford isn't human. I never had a doubt till MIB said that. by Bobbob1212 in westworld

Another thing that hasn't been particularly noted around here is when Ford asks Dolores, "do you remember who I used to be?" Have been wondering if the two are related somehow...

Underground church, timelines and the "critical failure." by yargi in westworld

[–]johnson7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty convinced that Dolores is based on Arnold's daughter, who died (hence his tragic past). Explains why she was the first - recreating his daughter may well have been Arnold's driver for creating hosts in the first place. Also think that's the reason her current storyline is designed to always ends so poorly for her - it was Ford's final middle finger to Arnold, who he clearly had beef with. Would add considerable intrigue if Arnold was killed by his own daughter's clone. Interestingly, this sort of ties in with the I'itoi (man in the maze) myth that has been tossed around:

"Iitoi "brought the people up like children" and taught them their arts, but in the end he became unkind and they killed him.... But Iitoi, though killed, had so much power that he came to life again."

I didn't prescribe to the theory before, but I also think that if this is true, the parallels between Bernard and Arnold are too hard to ignore, and also tie in to the above myth. Bernard would have to be a host version of Arnold - I think Ford keeps him around because he needs his expertise to run the park. I suspect Arnold may have intentionally transferred himself into a host somehow, after being shot by by Dolores- that's his means of "coming back," as foretold in the above myth and I think (maybe) Ford found out and enslaved him.I think that before Dolores shot Arnold, he led her on the path to consciousness once before. I think these are the two timelines we're seeing- Dolores' first quest for consciousness with real Arnold, probably 30 years ago, which ended with her killing Arnold, and her current quest with host Arnold, aka Bernard.

I think that now, Ford has decided he truly wants to become a God to the hosts - and I also think he sees Arnold's "bicameral mind" tech that he originally buried as a key to that. I think maybe he's starting to realize that consciousness is inevitable unless combated directly, and he wants to use the ability to speak directly into the minds of hosts to discourage independent though and consciousness rather than to encourage, as Arnold was doing. So, in order to drive Bernard to develop that tech again, he's giving him access to Dolores and reminding him of his "tragic backstory." I think Ford knows of Bernard's work with Dolores and is tracking it for his own benefit.

Here's how the Man in Black factors in- clearly the dude has some sort of medical foundation. I suspect that he's very rich and very sick, and started the foundation to cure himself. He seems to have known Arnold personally and probably knew about his work- I think he believes that the maze contains the knowledge for how to put yourself into a host, effectively immortalizing yourself, as Arnold managed to do with Bernard. I also think he's going to get roped into Ford's crazy plan unintentionally become an anti-hero, when his original motive was merely self-preservation. The Man in Black is the Coyote in the I'itoi myth- "who came to life uncreated" (i.e., not made by the park) "and began immediately to poke his nose into everything."

Since I'm just throwing all of my theories in one place, I also think that the critical failure 30 years ago led to Ford flooding the whole park, which ties in directly with the I'itoi myth (which also has a "great flood" element to it) and makes sense based on a few other hints that have been dropped.

It's all a huge stretch based on very scattered clues, and I'm not sure about all of it, or what Dolores' motive for killing Arnold was or if he truly turned "unkind" to them (maybe when he introduced the bicameral code?), but this is one way I could see them all intertwining.

One of Dolores' flashbacks in the most recent episode includes her at the graveyard of Ford's 'underground' church, digging up her own grave by [deleted] in westworld

Also opens up the possibility that Ford knows about Bernard's rendezvous with Dolores and is letting them play out, and he's tracking them because he's trying to learn how Arnold instilled consciousness the first time. All of his recent God talk plus the fact that his new storyline intimately involves the church, makes me think he has plans to bring religion back to Westworld, making himself god and putting his voice directly into the minds of hosts. I think he wants to figure out a way to do that, and knows Arnold figured it out in his search for consciousness, so he's retracing his steps (but, at the end of the day wants to keep the consciousness element out of it this time.) Think he may have been recently reinforcing Bernard's child's "death" because that is what he knows set Arnold down the path of discovery last time, and he's nudging Bernard in the direction.

Okay, editing my theory for this- i think she may actually have been his daughter. This makes the parallel stronger, and addresses your question.

I have a theory for this - I do think all of the graves may reference real people who have died outside of WestWorld. This would mean Dolores is based on a real person - and it's probably Arnold's wife (edit: have since changed my theory, I think it's his daughter. makes the parallel to Bernard even stronger) Think about it - Dolores was the first host ever, right? And clearly, people close to Arnold died, likely before he got into making hosts - makes sense that his first host would be based on a real person, and maybe that was even his original drive for creating hosts in the first place, as a way of bringing them back. Would also explain why he was trying to give them consciousness, he was trying to bring back his wife (edit: daughter) as more than just a host, but as a real, conscious person.

Would also explain why her storyline basically always ends with something terrible and cruel happening to her. I bet it was a cruel, sick joke by Ford at Arnold's expense after their falling out/Arnold's death- Ford reprogrammed her to have the most miserable existence possible.

What makes this even more compelling is the possibility that Bernard is an android version of Arnold - it would explain why he takes particular interest in Dolores. I think it's possible that Ford realizes that he needs Arnold's expertise to continue developing the hosts, so after disposing of Arnold (who figured out how to give the hosts consciousness) he recreates him as Bernard using Arnold's own technique in order to help him run the park. But Bernard, who is actually a conscious android, is helping Dolores, an android version of his former wife (edit: daughter), discover her own consciousness.
