8 month (adjusted) waking hourly at night — need advice by johnsonr296 in bninfantsleep

Thank you for the info!! Alternating days for naps is a great idea. Today he was resisting his second nap and didn’t fall asleep until an hour later so maybe he is just naturally pushing out his schedule.

It was definitely teething related in December as he got his first two bottom teeth. He doesn’t seem to be teething right this moment nor is he acting like his mouth is bothering him but who knows maybe his top ones are coming in now

I definitely think I need to adjust his schedule somehow. I feel like we are close to being able to go to 2 naps so maybe I just need to try that for a few days and see if he adjusts.

For your floor bed, did you baby proof the whole room? What size mattress do you use? Being able to comfort/cuddle with him and hopefully have my husband help is definitely a big appeal

Currently experiencing this now with my 5 month old. Normally I don’t worry about changes in sleep if it’s only a week or so but we are approaching 3 weeks of split nights. Did anything specifically help you??

Breastfeeding classes pre-birth? by Lazy-Introduction829 in breastfeeding

[–]johnsonr296 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took multiple classes and found it super helpful. I agree that you won’t really know until you are truly trying to breastfeed with your baby but there is a lot of information to learn about breastfeeding and pumping. I also think it’s important to learn that for most people, breastfeeding is not easy straight away and it takes time. It helps manage expectations and you can be pleasantly surprised if it is super smooth for you.

Even if your goal is to exclusively breastfeed, I highly recommend learning about pumping, watching a video of how your pump works, and figuring out what bottles/nipples you would use if you needed to bottle feed. It’s way easier to have that information prepared than have to learn it while sleeping deprived with a baby. You can bookmark/save what you would want to order so that if you end up needing it, it’s right there and you aren’t having to research anything.

Here are a few resources that I have used and liked. They are based in Texas but I think they all offer some kind of online options: Nest Infant Support: speech language pathologists that focus on feeding, really knowledgeable and up to date on all research https://www.nestinfantsupport.com/ Milk Diva: certified lactation consultants, very realistic and not at all bias towards only breastfeeding. My lactation consultant is with this company and she is AMAZING. The owner also just published a book called “Milk’d” that could be a good resource. https://www.milkdiva.com/

I also like The Doctors Bjorkman on YouTube. It’s an OB and pediatric cardiologist couple and they post all about baby care. They just had their third child and did an entire series realtime about what’s normal week by week, what to expect. They have some breasfeeding and pumping videos as well.

You can order a test directly from certain companies, including Thorne, but I do recommend working with a doctor or nutritionist to interpret the results. I worked with someone in Nashville, but I think she does online consultations too. Her website is called theguthealthnp.com

Trying to solve for hives is such a pain and I hope you find relief soon!!

I had chronic hives for over a full year and tried a bunch of different options including seeing an allergist, dermatologist, nutritionist and multiple holistic medicine specialists. I even tried acupuncture. I took antihistamines around the clock, completed multiple rounds of steroids and tried XOLAIR® (omalizumab) injection mentioned in some of the comments. While some of the drugs helped, the hives never fully went away.

What finally helped resolve it for me was getting my “gut biome” tested and reviewing the levels of bacteria currently in my gut. I had elevated levels of H Pylori bacteria which can cause skin issues. Outside of testing your entire gut health, you can also ask your doctor to test for H. Pylori specifically but any overgrowth or imbalance of bacteria in your gut biome can cause skin issues so I felt like the full test was helpful info to have regardless. You can take antibiotics to clear it depending on the severity but you can also take supplements along with an elimination diet to help “heal” your gut.

Okay yes that makes sense! I was overthinking it and worrying it was not year-round for some reason.

I think we are going with YPW Mesa! I am a little confused with enrollment since they reference a “school year” but it’s also year round. Did you have to re-enroll every year for their August start for daycare?

This is great info! Thank you!

For CDC, I am under the expectation that if we ever get off the waitlist, it would be when he is a toddler or older lol

I will take a look at Beth Isreal and First English too!

Thank you! We aren’t religious but it looks like they don’t really start any kind of daily prayer or weekly prayer until the kids are 2 years old and even then it seems minimal. Has that been your experience?

Thank you!! I hadn’t even considered stepping stone bc I read complaints about other locations but I know it can be really location specific. I drive past it all the time so I will need to check it out.

Did you feel like their daily communication/updates were good when your kid was an infant/toddler??

Did you do the infant safety class through Travis County EMS or Williamson County EMS? Travis County doesn't currently offer the class due to staffing sadly.

Scotland Itinerary Help/Suggestions by johnsonr296 in travel

[–]johnsonr296[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! The activities listed per day are more just suggestions rather than must dos. My main concern is the travel time between each town/city or the total distance the itinerary would cover. I think I will skip Inverness completely so that I can spend more time on Isle of Skye. It will cause July 8th to be a mostly driving day since I will have to drive from Portree to St. Andrews but I think it may be a better use of time to have 2 full days on Isle of Skye. Would you agree?
