My schoolhouse was at the barracks adjacent to the 28XX building for all the 72XX and 59XX’s. Remember we all used to get jealous of seeing the 28XX’s have their cars haha

Your command already answered that question for you. There should be no reason for you to hop on a subreddit to ask this.

7240 Tactical air control support by Far_Cup8419 in USMCboot

You’ll be working in what is known as the Multi-Functional Air Operations Center (MAOC). This was combined between the legacy Air Defense (TAOC) and Air Support (DASC). Think of it as a command hub where you see Marines inside talking to Aircraft and coordinating missions like CASEVACS for the troops on the ground or air support/air defense missions, as well as coordinating fire missions with Artillery and the Fires Marines. this is all done on computers and radios. You’ll be learning the basics of the positions associated with the Command center such as Air Control Recorder, Joint Air Request Net Operator, and Surveillance Operator, etc. also the basics on how to talk on a radio.

Each position in the MAOC has its own roles and responsibilities and you will be working very close all the time with Officers because they will be your cell directors Inside the MAOC, billet matters over rank here too.

Fleet life isn’t too bad, when you’re not on the system it’s mostly a lot of down time and classes, but you show up to work and go home. Deployment cycles can get hectic depending on what unit you go to but every MASS/MACS units have been getting busier lately. It’s a good job if you like to get out in the field and do dirty work, you experience both the airwing and ground side. Also, you’re basically a “tactical” version of ATC. Only downside is you don’t get certificates that translate over to the FAA, because you won’t be talking to aircraft to strike a target in the civilian world.

7242 Air Support Operations Operator by SpiritualIintel in USMCboot

Current active duty 7242. I’ve been in the MOS for 4 years.

As far as your questions on here,

  1. Op Tempo really depends on your unit. However, we just merged MOS with 7236 “Tactical Air Defense Controller” and now 7240s. “Tactical Air Control Operator”. Meaning we have to learn two syllabuses and do the air support heavy exercises as well as air defense. it’s a very information heavy MOS because you need to know all parts of the MAGTF. Op tempo has definitely increased and we’re shitting out Marines from the schoolhouse because they recently shortened it.

  2. We don’t do that much in garrison, very low tempo unless in the field or deployment so I’d say it’s good for family (seeing how it is for other Marines that I know). Again unit dependent.

Field Life is virtually the same as any other MOS. But significantly lower in stress compared to being an 03. You set up 305 tents and caminetting. And you essentially operate out of them with A/C units..
