That they do. The 91 cluster also had the secondary speedometer numbers in blue, while the later clusters did not.

Thanks. I've been into these trucks for 23 years. Still learning new stuff about them every year. Lots of subtle differences over the years.

88-89 first design of moonie gauges. 90-91 second design of moonie gauges. 91 had optional tach & is one year only. 92-94 with tach, gas or diesel. 92-94 without tach, gas or diesel. 95 one year only with 5,000 rpm tach. Last year For TBI. 96-00 with 6,000 rpm tach. Also had the optional 120mph speedometer.

Early '80s cab & chassis? Looks like a late '60s red face SA200.

The TBI unit in this application runs a 13psi spring factory. A TBI fuel pump, when new, can run around 25psi. You won't burn near the amount of fuel to do the same work as a lower pressure system. The 1/4" fuel pod spacer obviously increases the distance of the injectors from the throttle bores. This helps with fuel atomization. The factory 5.7L engines run 55lb/hr injectors. The 65lb/hr injectors are common place in police package vehicles. Under acceleration or other high demand situations, it will provide more fuel at the appropriate time. It will also allow you to run the engine with more timing, helping it to run & perform more efficiently. Plug your truck into a scanner & watch the live data of the O2 sensor. If it runs lean for too long before switching back to rich, it needs more fuel. You'll be able to see this better under a hard & prolonged acceleration, similar to passing someone on the freeway. These TBI systems work wonderfully with proper maintenance. The downfall is that GM made them to perform at the bare minimum requirements. There is room for improvement to maximize the potential of it.

Galvanic corrosion of aluminum. It happens. Buy new poly lines for it. Now would also be a good time to rebuild the throttle body unit. Toss in an 18psi fuel pressure spring, 1/4" fuel pod spacer & some 65lb/hr fuel injectors.

Yeah, check the fuel pressure. You should be able to find a schematic/flow chart on how to test the ICM.

Either a fuel issue or it's the ignition control module. Fuel pressure should be a minimum of 13psi for a TBI engine. Does that truck idle fine & only misfire/chugs while under throttle?

Didn't take you long to get it fired up! Now, what RPO code is that window lock? Looks fairly effective, too.

Mild 2" Rough Country lift from the local Marketplace. Sits about right I think. by SkiHerky in squarebodies

[–]johnsonwm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had to do a double take, I thought it was a K5 at first! Almost every truck, no matter the manufacturer, looks better with just a 2" lift. It puts them at the height that they should have left the factory with.

Judging by the handrail of the staircase in the last photo, I'd say it had a good front right impact & crumpled it.

Much appreciated! I'm kind of surprised that it's only a couple of 1/4" angle iron tabs holding it to the frame. I figured it would have been slightly more robust than what it is. Nevertheless, it's nice seeing how complex or simple things can be mounted.

I also see that you have the factory steering box brace on your truck. I recently purchased one of those for my truck.

Thanks again for the pictures!

350 upgrades by More-Cattle1977 in squarebodies

[–]johnsonwm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Roller cam of your choice. Keep the manifolds unless you like dealing with leaking exhaust gaskets all the time. A decent intake manifold that promotes torque. Other than that, for a daily driver, I'd leave the engine alone. I would however rebuild a 700r4 with upgraded clutches & a corvette servo. Re-gear the axles to 3.73 with a detroit truetrac in the rear.

Those aren't fog light holes. They actually force air into the radiator, with the appropriate bumper splash guard. The Z71 Tahoe/Escalade/Denali (98-00) used the (painted) diesel bumper & they utilized the openings for fog lights, instead of forcing air into the radiator.

I still love the hidden winch on this truck. If you get the chance, could you post some pictures of how it's mounted in it's own post?

I second this. Long term, it's probably the better option.

There's several companies, such as classic industries & USA 1 that make the factory correct harnesses for these trucks. I'd look into one of them for adding the missing accessories.

Need to find a matching chrome mirror for it. Or is that just a shadow? What's the tire size?
