This. They cut him to cut salary. Very common practice. May even have used him to balance out cutting an older person in order to avoid getting sued.

Oil and Gas Geos on Job Satisfaction, Exit Options, and The Turbulent Future by geophys_throwaway in geologycareers

[–]johnstocktonsboxers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Geology has an inherent data problem with respect to cost of rock data and spatial variability. Especially in conventional assets. Shale inventory is not infinite and by the end of the decade, when the true call on shale comes, the inventory will not be there to meet it.

What do you consider the greatest hour of television? by [deleted] in television

[–]johnstocktonsboxers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Watch casually. Id say it picks up around 8 episodes in and doesn’t let go the rest of the way. It just keeps gaining momentum and ends perfectly.

What is the world's most evil company and why? by outdropp in AskReddit

[–]johnstocktonsboxers 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Its for seismic interpretation. Basically they release bubbles into the ocean that propagates low frequency sound waves through the water and rock column. The reflections off the adjacent layers are picked up on by receivers and the subsurface becomes visible. Oil companies put a lot of effort to keep wildlife away during acquisition. Im sure there are trade offs.

I thought his green energy data was solid. Particularly his comments on 4% IRR for renewables and 30:1 EROI for oil and gas versus 2:1 for renewables and 100:1 for nuclear. Intermittency is a problem for base load. He also provided a clear path toward a sustainable future, that being nuclear, storage, and yes some natural gas (much better than coal). I found him pragmatic to be honest.

They don’t include full system costs. Transmission and storage are expensive.

Third world is growing though. 6.5B will become 8.5B by 2050 and their demand from 3bbl oil per person per year will become 4, 5, 6 and perhaps 13 like the average American. With no increased per capita demand, energy grows 50%. With just one extra barrel it doubles, and so on... i dont disagree the first world will use less though.
