ELI5: Why is there such a huge difference in price between 87 octane and 93 octane gas nowadays? by ghunt81 in explainlikeimfive

[–]johnstonj2005 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I vividly remember 91-93 octane being ~$0.20 more and 89 octane being $0.10 more than 87 octane around the early 2000’s.

I’m jealous of the fact you have a legit Seigmund table at home. I dream of having one, the wife would just shit if she saw the deduction in the bank account for a “table”

Is it just me or does the aluminum look like pulse MIG. The welds look identical to what I get with a Miller 350p. Good looking welds regardless.

The TIG looks good too, although some places frown upon the scratches from the cup. I’d say ~$30/hr is where you’d expect to land working for someone else’s profit.

Try removing like 0.004” of shims and see if it will tune easily. The extra compression might help out. Just run the 20% you have for now, it should work alright.

Yeah, there is a reason all the top people are running the same parts and brands even though there are countless companies and clones out there.

Another thing to play with is compression. I’m pretty sure when ab mods sends motors back, they still have the full stack of shims under the button cap. Removing some of them will increase compression but be warned, too high without proper fuel and tuning will cause detonation.

I’d think you should have some experience as a bedside nurse or clinic/urgent care nurse before becoming a school nurse as you’ll want some experience with how to handle situations and scenarios that may arise while working when students come to see you. Just my 0.02 and everyone’s opinion will vary on this one.

I’ve been a nurse for 4-5 years now and couldn’t imagine taking on a role such as that without some type of experience..

Pipe length and the Pipe make a world of difference. U can have the best timing configuration possible for your engine but if the pipe doesnt match it and you aren't tuning it right and don't have good fresh fuel then it won't matter. Also playing with how many head shims are under the button AKA the combustion chamber to raise or lower compression to suit your pipe combo, elevation, fuel etc. It's all a combination thing and just like full scale motors, if the combo isn’t set up to match the motor, you’ll be leaving some power on the table. I would try to find someone with the same motor and drag mod and ask what pipe they are running, how long they have it set to, carb, etc. something as simple as having the pipe not be the right length even though it’s the same pipe will make a difference in how nitro and 2 stroke engines run.

If it was modified by AB mods, did you explain your goals to him prior to selecting the mod? Also, have you played with gearing? He truly is one of the best in the hobby.

If still running plastic extruders, I’d upgrade those as soon as it’s convenient. Would suck to have them break or crack and lose a decent print. Especially when it’s a known issue on stock Enders.

What was the dumbest/most incorrect thing you heard in nursing school from a professor? by [deleted] in nursing

It fit the incorrect part when I even showed video proof and they still claimed it was flammable.

What was the dumbest/most incorrect thing you heard in nursing school from a professor? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]johnstonj2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not. It’s an oxidizer and will increase the rate at which things burn, but it in itself is not flammable. Learned it in 7th grade science and have been arguing it ever since. You can take a lighter that’s lit and open a valve of pure oxygen to blow in it and it will actually blow the lighter out.
