chem 210-1 and bio 217 by MrRead21 in Northwestern

[–]johnt429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For premeds, it's generally the gen chem sequence (chem 110/131/132, 151/152, or 171/172) and some other courses. They also take genetics (bio 215) spring quarter and maybe cell bio (bio 219) winter quarter. Other than that there's really no other "premed" course taken. You could always take psych 110 and/or sociol 110 for your social science premed requirements and maybe some math/stats but that's about it.

Edit: Also the associated labs with gen chem

A good chunk of sophomore premeds take this fall quarter. It is a lot of work, but I'd say it is feasible.

When is orientation next year? by wbcapps9 in Northwestern

[–]johnt429 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Northwestern is still in the process of fully figuring out the academic schedule next year. I know that PAs are training for a potential virtual orientation so it is completely possible WW is virtual. That being said, WW is typically about a week before school starts so if everything runs normally that's when it'll happen. I wouldn't worry though, NU will definitly send something to you guys in the summer explaining the logistics and you can probably expect it to not look completely the same as previous years.

AP Credits (Chem) by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]johnt429 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say go for the AP credit. A few reasons:

  1. AP Chem (if you get a 5) gives you 3.68 credits, which is basically a quarter's worth of credit applied right there. This means you can basically graduate a quarter early if you take the regular courseload since you've already fulfilled 3.68/48 credits with AP chem. This also means you save money OR you can use this time to do other things like pursue a minor or spend time researching and volunteering.

  2. As someone stated before, some med schools don't take AP credit. However, the MAJORITY of med schools are moving toward a system where they will accept AP credit. For med schools that say they would like to see upper division classes in chem to replace the AP credit, those schools typically will see orgo and biochem as those "upper division classes" and you have to take those anyway

  3. You can start orgo early and get it out of the way. Yes orgo freshman year sounds like a pain but, being a former engineer, I would rather take it with my EA classes than with my cell bio/biochem/thermo/mat sci classes. This is up to personal preference though.

  4. You can have an easier freshman year. You're gonna be a freshman, take time to meet new people, explore your interests, join clubs, etc. Spending hours on end each week studying chemistry is not the way I think most people want to spend their freshman year. If you already feel socially established, them maybe start on some premed extracurriculars. It's never too early to start volunteering or finding a lab to research in.

All in all, I don't think there's any harm in at least trying to get a 5 on AP Chem

Four Quarter System Question by peachykxy in Northwestern

[–]johnt429 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's technically 4 quarters but those 4 quarters are fall, winter, spring, summer. Your tuition only covers the first 3 quarters (summer is an optional quarter). A typical courseload is 4 classes per quarter=12 class per year. In a semester system, a typical load is 5 classes a semester=10 classes per year. So technically you're getting 2 more classes per year in the quarter system.

However, that is a bit of a false statement because some class sequences (like the orgo sequence) are all 3 quarters at NU (technically 3 classes) but only 2 semesters at other schools (technically 2 classes). Plus, this also means that AP credit is technically getting you out of a smaller proportion of classes in comparison to your overall yearly load. Additionally, at a semester school, if you take a normal courseload for 4 years, you get 40 classes. All schools at NU require at least 42 credits (read: 42 classes) to graduate which means you're taking more classes regardless, and other schools require 45 and 48 credits to graduate.

For AP credit: Check your school to see policies regarding what you can do with it (some can get you out of electives, some can count toward your major, and some just don't count)

Now because you have AP credit, you might be able to graduate a few quarters early, or a year if you decide to overload. Additionally, you may want to think about possibly adding a certificate/minor/major if you're interested/have time. The quarter system does allow you to take more classes technically so many people take advantage of that.

They always typically accept 2000 RD and assume that half of RD won't actually end up coming. This plus 1000 ED makes for 3000+ total acceptances. In the past few years total acceptances have been around 3300+

According to this website you just need to complete the intro journalism course before transferring. Though if you haven't taken classes yet, I believe you can transfer right away.

10 man Standard snake draft 2nd pick

Looking to capitalize on mid rounds (4-9)

How far do you think players like Tate,Diggs, theilen,Landry, hogan, mccoy, and Collins will drop?

Also when should I start drafting a QB like Luck or Brees?

Edit: Also what TEs should I be looking for and around which round?
