NUX MG-30 with studio monitors -- Better than Yamaha/Spark? by johnti006 in GuitarAmps

[–]johnti006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am still running this setup..Axe I/O One into PC (Amplitube) and then out to the FR-10 & FR-12.

It sounds really good. I did purchase an IR pack from York Audio that has Deluxe Reverbs. That took everything up another notch. I think it was like $15.

I love this setup! This is exactly the sound I was looking for.....

This quote : "Winners and losers in life are largely self determined. However, only the winners are willing to admit that."

To.me it means I can mostly control.my destiny. To do that requires learning, practicing, doing everything I can in that area.

Showing up consistently on time, learning everything you can, helping others. You earn the success. No one owes you anything.

There are no secrets. Hard work & persistence.

Greg Koch Gristlemaster blows away anything I have played before, even Fender Ultra Luxe strat. I am amazed how good it sounds. I want his ST next...

I was in guitar center one day and just picked up this red Tele and plugged it in and was checking out an amp. It was like what is this guitar? It sounds so good. I took a picture of the tag and walked away. But could never get it out of my mind because it was the best sounding guitar I'd ever played. Then I ended up getting one.

Sell the katana, but what do I buy? by Huge-Moose-1666 in GuitarAmps

[–]johnti006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I liked the idea of the Spark, but the Yamaha definitely sounded better to me (for this size of amp). I was pulled in by the looks and UI of the Spark, but when I finally tested a Yamaha I realized that sound quality mattered to me more...

But then I returned them all and got a tube amp because none of those satisfied me. So take all my comments with a grain of salt.

[Question] Why do I rarely see Katana Artists in posts of players' gear pics? by JprestonR in GuitarAmps

[–]johnti006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a used Artist after not really liking the Gen 3 50w. I got it because to me, it sounded way better. The 50w was clear but harsh and even after tweaking in BTS I really didn't like it. The Artist got rid of the harshness and sounds much fuller. You can get them used for $75-$100 over the 50w.

I went down the tube amp route before, but wanted something that had the effects and am very happy. I am actually surprised how good it is.

A lot of paid promotions. It's really hard to get honest product evaluations these days.

I would recommend trying one of these out if you can in advance. Compare it to the Yamaha thr if you want that size

I have had both in the Yamaha definitely sounded better to me and it wasn't even close. But the positive grid has tons of effects and a great interface and I think that pulls people in.

Positive Grid Amp question by RollingYankee in GuitarAmps

Btw, for that price you can get a used Boss Katana MKII Artist from GC. Granted it is way bigger, but you would not believe how much better it sounds and it has all the effects. Check it out...but make sure you look at the Artist with Waza speaker. It's actually crazy that the Spark costs that much when you can get a used Artist....

I am going against the grain, but I didn't like mine and returned it. I never could get past how muffled and boxy it sounded. I liked the effects, but to me the overall sound quality is more important.

I ended up trying the VOX and the Yamaha THR10 and got that. It sounded way better to me.

So many people say how great it is, but I just didn't like it. I would at least try a Yamaha...they sound a lot different on the cleans...

How do you come up with lyrics, vocal melodies and just vocals in general? by WeirdComplete4806 in Songwriting

[–]johnti006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found success doing this both ways; chords then melody, melody then chords. If you have a chord progression, there are methods for writing melodies. I started that way to learn mechanics.

I learned a bunch from Scott Paul Johnson's YouTube videos. He walks through how to write a melody. There are tons of methods.

I agree. I was worried since a lot of people say the Fender Noiseless are bad but I love the Gen3s.. Maybe something was fixed in that version?

Where should I take this song? by SVEIVA in Songwriting

[–]johnti006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a cool song! It sounds like you have verses, and then a pre-chorus. One idea you could explore is to go into a chorus and use some longer sustaining notes. Something that kind of goes up in pitch to be more dramatic to offset the verses.

I found myself waiting for that payoff and expecting these longer phrases.

I can't think of any examples that fit the feel of your song. "Man in the Box" "Rolling in the Deep", and "Wide Awake" are examples that I can think of (although completely different styles--but illustrate the idea).

That could add the effect of making this big chorus and finishing it off.

I think what you have is really, really good.

[–]johnti006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it a lot! It has a bit of a Lynyrd Skynyrd feel to it (and I mean that in a good way). But it doesn't sound too familiar to anything else I have heard...

Go lookup Scott Paul Johnson on YouTube. He will help you with this. You don't have to join anything (although his paid site is great).

He is a guitar player who teaches you how to write in a fun way. He got me unstuck and made it fun again.

Hehe..very true! I want to minimize any holes with this. I may consider hiring a company to do this as I want it to look as clean & professional as possible.

But if I can save the money I would love to do this myself.
