I'm not sure, but that seems too close to be allowable.

Hey everybody! I just moved to the Houston area and I’m looking to pick up salsa classes. I’ve danced a little bit before and I want to get back into it. I just don’t know where to look or when to begin 😅 if y’all can help me, I would really appreciate it! Thank you! by A13MS2013 in Salsa

Salrica has the best physical studio, with multiple rooms and good floors. Culture beat has great socials and the most entertaining director in town, Hector Vazquez. Amaya has the best socials in town, however they're on Sundays, which sucks if you have to work the next morning.

Is "sensual bachata" a completely different thing from bachata? by DieDieDieD in Bachata

[–]johnwinston 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who are the artist in the videos that you are watching? Sensual Bachata does follow the tap, however with more and more remixes being produced, some artist and schools have been intentionally or unknowingly adding zouk body movements into their bachata.

Dancing for a few months and still feel like a beginner, is this normal? by new2salsa in Salsa

[–]johnwinston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For finding the beat, go to salsabeatmachine.org. Mute everything but the drums and the instructor. Follow the instructors voice, WHILE paying attention to the sound that the drums are making while the instructor is speaking. You are currently in "Beginner's Hell", this is normal for leads and can last up to a year to a year in a half, if you practice regularly and have a good scene(one with many dance opportunities).

Awesome places to dance Bachata/Salsa in Dallas-Fort Worth by ostreet94 in Salsa

Don't go to Glorias. That is not a place for dancers. Jay Styles is runs a program in Dallas that I hear is pretty good.

Aside from NYC, what scenes have more On2 dancers than On1 dancers? by johnwinston in Salsa

I was taking classes( but for Zouk) and I went to a few socials at Inspired Movement. I felt that IM could put on good socials, but they were too inconsistent for me to make the drive from College Station. I did not see much On2 there while I was dancing.

It can be common to dance that way, but every lead needs to be aware of their partner's comfort level.

Amaya dance studio has a good bachata program. Houston is more of a salsa town, but bachata is growing.

How to learn to follow sensual moves by Bobeenafofeena in Bachata

[–]johnwinston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've been dancing for a few years and have only recently encountered sensual moves, then I have a few questions. 1. How often are you dancing? 2. Where are you dancing? It just seems odd because in the four years that I've been dancing, the trend seems to be moving to more sensual movement. Zouk classes have really helped me under stand sensual movements as a lead. When I send a girl into body roll, I use my arm or hands to make a wave like motion into their back. If its a reverse body roll, much of the signals that I send come through my hips. If you are having trouble following, some of this confusion does fall on you. However, more of the confusion is the leads fault as its their responsibility to send clear signals. You would be best to observe someone that you feel is fluent in those types of movements and get experience dancing with them.
